I know pretty much what is available for them and how light they can be made, they still dont excite me. My buddies gun has a 2.5 CMC trigger. I installed it. If I had a purpose for one I'd probably do a full custom with a Krieger , or similar, barrel. For my style of hunting the magnumAR's are...
I have several, 3)223's, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5CM, and 308. All are unfired. I bought a bunch of lowers pre Obama and put a bunch together but they arent really my thing. I've shot my buddies 223 and 308 and hate the spring noise in my ear. I also shoot mostly magnums and AR magnum are way heavy. That...
I'd look at H-1000, Retumbo, N565, or N570. I wouldnt believe those fill ratios either. Quickloads is not great at that with the Rums, WSM and other large magnums.
N570 would probably give the best fill ratio.
I totally agree with xphunter on the turrets as well. Mechanical parts wear out and Leupolds arent known for durable scopes, at least in their non military scopes. Nightforces scopes fail too. I've had problems with both brands, more with Leupold, and the only reason I still use Leupolds is for...
A full custom doesnt need to take a long time to build or cost 5k. With prefit or Remage type barrels a person can put one together themselves easily and if the barrel is in stock it could happen quick once you have the action. I paid 800 for a used Defiance Classic and a new Tenacity. Both of...
Inside of 400 I generally dont mess with hold over lines either if I need to shoot fast With a 200yd zero my 300wsm drops about 6.6 and 19 inches at 300 and 400yds. 300yds I hold just below the spine on a elk and 400 I give it 6-8" of daylight. At the 6-700yds I try to limit my shooting at game...
I would go custom over a semi custom. The price isnt much different and you generally get a better product. Prefit barrels on custom actions makes it easy to DIY a custom gun now days.
i just mounted one of my kids Leica Amplus 6 3-18×44's on a 7prc with a Defiance Classic action and a Krieger barrel. I'm in the middle of chambering the second 7prc for my youngest son now but got distracted by the BSU game. It will wear the same scope.
I personally like to use crosshairs because its fasters and you dont have to worry about where your dial is if you get multiple chances in quick succession at different distance. I've had it happened a lot and you get bogged down figuring out where you dials are from the last place/distance you...
Nitriding is a very thin surface treatment so I wouldnt sweat it for cracking, not to mention the highest pressure is encased mostly by the action and the largest diameter of the barrel. If it was through hardened then it would be prone to potential cracking. The point I was making is these...
The different expansion rates of steel and brass could explain the gas leakage. I said it before but.....steel cases dont give like brass and any little spec of dirt can cause scratching. Also 80kpsi will show issues not otherwise seen at 65kpsi. If I was going to try 80kpsi I'd nitride the...
Lug set back is possible. If that happens you could have excessive headspace. You could also have lug galling and scarring on the bolt face. The good thing is it was probably a .223 or .308 based case on a 722. They have less surface area to apply pressure to the lugs. Kampfeld in north ID can...
I shoot 147 ELD-M's for everything up to elk. I like 54.7grs of R-26 in virgin Peterson brass or 54.3 in once fired with a CCI 250 primer. Magnum primers gave lower SD/ES. I have also used 55.5grs of N565. It has a bit lower SD/ES but it not quite as accurate in my gun. The R-26 load shoots in...
All models of Leica's are better then about any non European glass. Swarovski's are good too but I found the same thing a previous poster said, swapping back and forth between my Leica's and my buddies Swarovski's, the Leica's were better. I could make out a bull in a group of elk at 800yds...
