Vintage 250 Savage Loads/ reloads (pic)

Dont remember If I posted these already- if so apologies- Like to think about the stories in some of this old stuff. You can see in the photo that the bullets have been pulled at least once. There's also some "reload data" written on the inner carton. Cousin picked them up for me at a flea...

    H4350 vs IMR 4350

Years ago I started reloading my 250-3000 Savage with Hogdon 4350. Havent been able to find it (until yesterday) for years. So we went to IMR 4350. I didnt have the experience or knowledge at the time to adjust my loads between the two powders. Being older and in theory wiser, should I...

Resale value of your rifles- whats been your experience?

So- I made the mistake of stopping by Cabelas yesterday. From across the store three rifles w/ Maple stocks caught mt eye. Two winchesters at $1800+ and a Browning for about $1500. (6.5 Creedmore) I Just dont have much experience selling rifles of that quality. Things that I have...

Burris optics repair.....any experience or resources?

Hey all- looking for experiece or resources re: repair of a Burris for a friend. The friend shoots competitively and would like to use a Burris fixed power scope on his competition rifle in an effort to keep him under a weight limit for his class VS a variable power unit. Unfortunately, the...

Good grief.... It might finally happen....

Those of you who have heard me complain about this before, know how I feel about the "slugs only area's where I have been hunting for the last 30+ years. Interesting that in this news story they do not describe it as a "safety factor". FINALLY.... Still I have no faith in St Paul. Rumor has...

    Made my contribution.....

Just obtained a "predator" licsence for back home in SD. Nothing like paying non-resident prices for the privilege to carry a rifle in pursuit of coyotes, Jacks, (who's seen one in the last 30 yerars?), Crows and GOPHERS, :eek:to make you appreciate where you grew up. ;). I'm willing, but it...

Origins of my 250 Savage obsession - remembering John

Writing briefly to share about the passing of my wifes uncle. John went home to be with his Lord about a week ago. Back about 1987 I asked him to help me look for a rifle, as I wanted something in .25 cal and they were a lot more common back home in SD. He knew I needed something with minimal...

    Re-sizing question-photo

Resizing some cases a while back, and decided to experiment. The attached photo shows a sharpie marked case that I ran into the sizing die, adjusting down in 1/4 turns until I got thr result you see. Looks to me Like this would be "Neck sized". You can see the sharpie removed on the neck and...

Quick load w/ CFE 223... for the 250 savage.

So... I found a pound of Hogdon CFE 223. Load data is avaialable for Speer hot cores in 100gr and 87gr varieties. Hornady also lists loads for the 75gr V-max's both of wich I have available. Loads look pretty speedy. What I dont have is anything for 100gr BT's any body able to run a quick load...

An experiment-Reading Primers - with a friends rifle

I have had my share of issues, including broken rifle parts recently, and while things are looking up, I was looking at the fired reloads from my friends model 99 in 250- 3000 Savage and I noticed what looked to me to be "cratering" of the fired primers. Given my recent experiences I decided to...

    .257 100 Gr. BT's actually found!

I think this is the first box I've seen in at least 3 years. I box of 50 on the shelf was $26 with tax. Double what the last one cost me but I guess "unobtainium" is pricey. CL

    The latest from St. Paul....

So here's what the "back door politicians" are up to in St Paul. I suspect it is the same in many places, unfortunately. Sooner or later, if we cant find positive ways to fight stuff like this the uninformed and wrongly informed will find a way to take our sport away from us. Cant believe the...

    Shooting themselves in the foot.....

I usually make one or two trips a year to a local Sportsmans Wharehouse, No football to keep me occupied on sunday anymore..... I did note a variety of loaded Nosler ammo on the shelf. Little to no bullets. A box of Nosler custom 180gr 300 WSM was priced at $109 and change..... CL

    Shillen Barrels- would you?

The header asks the question. If you were buying a Savage pre-fit, chambered barrel, would you buy a Shillen, knowing there are more expensive barrels? Anything else comparable in the $300 price range? CL

Saving my 250-Savage- is it worth it? Talk me out of it.

So - talked with my Smith this afternoon- he hasnt been able to find a bolt for my FN Mauser commercial bolt or action (no surprise) I havent either. He does have an Interarms "Mark X" 30-06 rifle for sale. In many ways this might be the way to go. I would get a theoretically good action and...

FN Mauser Bolt.....Pics of Broken bolt added.

Hey all- I find myself looking to replace the Bolt body in my FN Belgian made Mauser. Ive looked at all the usual Google spots. Im not interested in a Military or reforged "bent" bolt. That limits me to old Browning,Weatherby, Herters or other imported actions. Any body have one or any leads...
