    Rusting Leupold Scope Mounts

Just got back from the High Buck hunt in WA. Rained on the scramble in. My Leupold scope mounts rusted on the first day of rain! Is this a common thing? I have several other mounts old and new that have been in more prolonged wet weather, even coastal sea air, that didn't do this. Any thoughts?

    Washington High Buck Hunt

Looks like I get to try the early season High Buck hunt. Probably in the Pasayten Wilderness . Any advice? I imagine it could be warm temps and where we are going takes at least a day to hike in. Keeping meat cool could be a challenge. Be at least two of us, maybe 4. 3 point minimum and I hear...

Light target/small game load for 25-284 and 25-06 (but discontinued powder)

Having success with old SR 4759 and 25 caliber match bullets for light 1700 fps loads. I sure wish they would bring back this powder. Anyway I a had a great couple of hours at the range. These loads have no kick. 18 grains of SR4759 and a 100 grain Sierra Match bullet (2nds). The 25-284 used...

    Can I use IMR4227 for H4227?

Rumor has it that IMR4227 is rebranded H4227 (which isn't on the current Hodgdon burn chart). I see some nice heavy loads for 38 special using H4227 and I have a couple of pounds of IMR 4227. Okay to use IMR for H data?

Shotshell for 44 mag from krag and 444 marlin

Came across these in my Dad's stuff. Thought I had found everything of his that seemed unique. He took 30-40 brass and shortened and milled down the rim to fit 44 mag. Looks like #7 1/2 shot with a cardboard wad held in place by water glass.

Titegroup sticking and etching powder measure

Opened a bottle of titegroup today to try some subsonic loads in 308 as a replacement for TrailBoss. Took 12 rounds out to the range and it shot well at 50 yards. Came back in to load some more and found the powder stuck to the sides of the clear plastic hopper on my RCBS measure. Even dawn...

Found my grouse load for deer season, Subsonic 308

Found where to hold the reticle in relation to the scope set for deer load. (lower left shots) It ends up to be holding the lower thick part of the duplex reticle on the bull. Then shot three, 3 shot groups at 50 yards. They all hit in the same spot about the size of a grouse's head. Very...

    Carbon buildup and Reloder 16?

After getting some very fast loads compared to book velocities, I cleaned my rifle very deeply including iosso with brushes and then wipeout overnight. Velocity dropped 200 fps with the next rounds. After some searches I find some shooters saying the Reloder 16 I was using lays down carbon...

Front sight LCRX 38 spc 3" fell off. What would be a good replacement?

All of a sudden I noticed all shots going over the top of the paper. Apparently the front sight had fallen off! Couldn't find the sight or the roll pin. I see a HiViz sight offered. I went ahead an ordered it. What would be a good replacement? Is a fiber optic sight durable and a step up? Other...

Oil prices to come down with OPEC increased production

Looks like we are in for another oil price drop (with drop in gas prices and increase in natural gas prices likely) like the last two time Popus was in office. The downside is like the last times, we are losing drill rigs and refineries in the US because the price of oil is too low to make a...
