There is something about the 35. I’ve been looking for one in a number one for a while. To date they are all fetching quite a premium. I’m to the point where Im shopping for a donor, they all use the same action/receiver and send it off for new barrel. Cheaper than just buying the Whelen #1.
Why would they make it more difficult. I simply don’t understand that. But I get pissed off every time my phone gives me that message “update scheduled for tonight”. Not that I mind having my grand daughter over for dinner but I dont’ want her to think the only reason is so I can use my phone...
I’ve killed an awful lot of Mule deer with the ballistic tips, mostly 150gr. 30 cal. Been using them since they hit the market. Early on i realized they were not as tough as partitions and quickly decided I would not use them on elk. Over the years Nosler toughened up the bullet as guys like us...
SIL had a chemo port installed last thursday over in Portland. They will go over Thursday this week for the first of his chemo treatments. Docs have been quite clear, all we can hope for is to extend his life to some degree. With luck the chemo will double his 6 to 9 month forecast. We do...
This powder supply thing is interesting. When things really dried up during covid H4350 was about the only thing I could get locally. That was the case for a long enough period I worked up loads in 8 or 9 rifles.
My only complaint about partitions is Nosler never made one in 750gr for the 577. My 375HH shoots them to well under MOA. Most everything else has been right at 1moa or a touch more. Chasing accuracy I have largely switched to Accubonds but I still keep partitions around. I know I’ve a box...
The truth is in the market. I sold almost 200 of my late Brother in Laws guns, and a few of my own on gun broker last year. I did use a broker who drove to BILs house inventoried the guns ammo holsters and anything else we could get in the truck. It all sold. As too the guns all but a couple of...
I’m transitioning to VV but to date I’ve just used N560 in my 300 HH. Good velocity , 3000 fps and accurate. just about out of RL 15 so I’ll be getting some VV 550 and 555 in my 375. Should also work in the 06. Seems like the 500 series gives better velocity.
Looking forward to your reviews.
During my guiding career we had a group of guys take most or all of our deer hunts for quite a few years. Good group of guys and the second or third year they were all shooting sst out of a variety of dual purpose cartidges; 7mm, 06 a 300 or two kind of thing. Their goal was to get it done the...
We had snow all the way down in the valley last week, I think at this time of year it doesn’t take much to push them. That being said there are not very many elk down currently.
I’ve never measured mine, i know I have generous chamber. I don’t know if I have any brass that hasn’t been sized yet. If so I’ll see what I might learn.
Sheep, Moose, elk, White tail, blacktail, mule deer on this continent.
Throw in Africa eland, zebra, Nyala probably top my list.
If it’s got feathers nothing beats Ptarmigan in the fall. Nothing comes remotely close.
I think this rifle is my favorite all around rifle, nipping at the heels of a 280, it’ll work for elk in the right circumstances and anything lighter. Considering taking it to Africa this spring as Gemsbok is the biggest critter on my list this time. Probably still just take the 300 HH.
