    Stocky’s Carbon Fiber Stocks

I purchased one for a build this winter. Rem 700, M5 bottom metal, proof sendero. It was a drop-in fit. So I bought another Rem 700, BDL bottom metal, sporter channel. Drop-in fit. Feeling lucky, bought a Savage 110 bottom bolt release. Not a drop-in fit. Still trying to get the Inlet...

    Reliable scopes for carbines?

I have been very happy with it on my AR and it worked well in the woods. Clear glass, good light transmission, good eyebox and eye relief. Illuminated dot is daylight bright on 1x, like a medium sized red dot sight. Easy to dial or use reticle for longer shots.

    Reliable scopes for carbines?

What about a 1-6 power LPVO like a Vortex PST or Razor? The illuminated dot makes them like a red dot on 1 power. Dialable and repeatable. Except 30mm not 1 inch. I pulled the Razor off of an AR and put it on the 45-70 for a woods hunt a few years ago and liked it.

    Interesting group

Fifteen minutes into the first morning, we caught about 20 elk cresting a ridge top. By the time we got up top, they had crossed over to a second ridgeline and were casually walking up it. 423 yard walking broadside shot. she made it about 30 yards into the trees and expired. I didn't get...

    Interesting group

Floating the chamber seems to have fixed the problem. 160g Accubond over Retumbo, 3150 fps. That'll hunt elk out to 600 yards.

    Interesting group

I shot it again this weekend. I didn't see the diagonal, but did see 1.5 inch vertical climb over 5 shots fired in less than 5 minutes. A 3 shot group fired over 15 minutes was a cloverleaf. I pulled the stock off when I got home to inspect again. I decided to float the chamber to see if...

    Interesting group

Thanks for the replies. I will attempt to repeat the situation this weekend to see. Just figured through slow and steady load development I had no issues. I never would have thought speeding the shot intervals up would change POI and string like that. Maybe a fluke, but I am a suspicious person😆

    Interesting group

Here it is cold clean bore with two followup shots about 5 minutes apart earlier in the day

    Interesting group

My 7-300 Win Mag produced this the other day. I was clocking the 5 shot group in front of a LabRadar. Only gave about 60 seconds between shots. Watched the rounds walk from low left to high right, one step at a time. The stock is pilar bedded, the action screws are torqued to 50 inch pounds...

    Diagnosed with ARFS

I agree with double hearing protection. I also have another thought. I got a bit flinchy out of the blue a few years ago. My dentist found a cracked tooth. Got a crown and flinch seemed to vanish. I also have a mantra I repeat when shooting the heavy hitters. "I have been kicked into next...

    Browning A Bolt 2 rebarrel

I agree. Though it is nice to have a shooter, it is more fun for me to tinker with a problem gun to see if I can make it shoot.

    Vortex Viper 3000HD

I have had the range finder out spotting wildlife several times this summer and find that it easily and repeatedly ranges 2500 to 2600 yards on nonreflective targets. Still very happy with it.

    Browning A Bolt 2 rebarrel

Being from a service profession, I am amazed at what people can expect. I would imagine gunsmiths take a ton of heat from people with misguided expectations. I think this youngster was puzzled when I didn't want the muzzle threaded for a suppressor. He was equally perplexed when I said my...

    Browning A Bolt 2 rebarrel

Pretty happy with the result. Slightly over 2 months and it is back. That young guy was extremely professional and timely. Great first impression. Glassing it tonight. Will start load development next week and see how it shoots.

    Browning A Bolt 2 rebarrel

My old faithful A bolt has been in need of a new barrel for may years. After hearing all of the horror stories about broken actions and locktite I decided that if someone was going to break it, it might as well be me. I found a factory new threaded barrel with a short chamber and figured why...

    Vortex Viper 3000HD

Picked up this rangefinder prior to hunting this year. Midway USA had them on sale for $399.00. It had decent reviews and I knew it would out do my old Nikon 7i which never lived up to the hype. I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Vortex. Very clear glass, easy to see red...

    Wyoming cow elk

Wow. Life has been busy for too long. 5 year old kid is growing fast, wife managing a big box store, COVID, and thriving small business. Makes it hard to spend time on hunting and shooting. My old hunting buddies and I have tallied up a bunch of elk points in Wyoming. We usually are DIY...

    Remage or tradional rebarrel?

I did McGowan Remage rebarrel recently and it worked well. The learning curve wasn't that bad, there are several good videos on YouTube to watch to get the process figured out. My feeling is that if you are going to just do one, get a professional rebarrel done because the cost of the action...
