    GREAT FALLS, MONTANA

I was stationed in GTF for a while my first taste of military was the Air guard as a full timer. Friendship, hard work ethics honesty, they had me all messed up before I joined the Army. Any way mule deer by the hundreds no joke. White tail near all rivers I had very good luck near Ft Benton...

    .257Wby range test

I am glad to see another post on one of my fav cartridges. I am stating what is already being said but the 3 257 Wbys I own can group from 2.5 inches to wonderful little clover leaf pattern and all I do is change the seating depth I am curious I use IMR 4831 not the slowest burning by far but...

    win. 30-30 lever action

I have shot 2 boxes of leverevolution and they grouped wider than Walmart fodder. The problem I ran into is the style of sights on Marlin/winchester it is prety tough to line up everything for a good shot out to 300. Peep sights are a dif story. I am sure a 17yr old has better eyes than mine...

    257 WBY load

As I look at my post I am sorry dubyam it was very harsh this was not my intent and certainly not directed to you. I am in full agreement with you and what you have said. 2005 your not stiring the pot, this site has allways been a great place for information listening to opinions and then for...

    257 WBY load

Maybe it is my unforgiving job speaking but I am soo tiered of people bending rules that somehow think they are smarter than the engineers and people who designed the product. And yes I am back from another funeral. If you load Swift bullets use their data simple as that. I am a...

    257 WBY load

Is your Weatherby an old rifle? I have 2 1960's rifles and I get wonderful groups with 100 grainers with IMR 4831. The riflings are a little slower so it makes it hard to stabalize the heavier barrels. IMR4831 max load out of the Nossler book gives me a little over an inch in one rifle and...

    .257 weatherby for elk

My first 4 elk were with the 257 Weatherby 120 NP. They have been the only elk I have shot that fell to their knees and then to ther side. At thirteen I was severly chastised by everyone on how it was too small of a caliber for elk. 30 plus elk later I have never had them fall as fast as they do...

35 cal 180g HG partition in a rifle

The 35 I was refering to was the .357 180 hand gun Nossler partition bullet but being used in a rifle. NoKness is this the bullet you are talking about? Nossler 3 1800fps impact velocity wow this is too bad this means that the partition would be a very bad choice for a 357 magnum pistol...

    .257" 100g BT

IMR 4831 has worked very well for me in three Weatherby barrels 2 are the older German with the slow twist 1 in 12 I think. I have tried 7831,7831sc and Reloader powders but this gives me dime sized groups at 100 yards. I am sad to say but this is the most finicky round I have. I use 66...

35 cal 180g HG partition in a rifle

I load Hornady's 180grain pistol in a 350Rem magnum at around 2300fps. It works great and light on the shoulder. The only reason I don't have any Noslers is that they grouped so well on paper the family shot them all, so all I had left was Hornadys for the hunt and the wife took 2 deer.

    .257" 100g BT

100gr BT is all I use in my 257WM. My speeds are close to yours. I have shot pigs in Alabama at 500 to 600yrds all of them 200+ lbs for a farmer who wanted them gone. Shoulder, heart lung head did not seem to matter much, they all fell over or walked a short distance and died. This has been a...

    Good Bear Load?

I own a Savage 99 in 308 my very accurate loads are only 170fps ish behind the max load in the 30-06 using the same powder for comparison. This is my horse rifle so it has to be fast to point if we were to be charged by a bear in MT. Never happened, (WE were assaulted/ambushed by a skunk once...

    .30 Caliber

A 300RUM with a 180 partition moves out around 3000fps ish A puny old 308 is 2500-2600 fps (All this is generalized). but with prety close to only half the powder. Both sighted in at 200yards the dif in drop at 300yards is 3 inches. Just past a hundred yards the 300RUM is going the same speed...

Cartridges you can NOT do without?

Growing up on a farm/ranch I got to use/learn with a Colt python 38 specials are great for this. I traded a half dead calf for a Rossi 357 carbine and dies and an Orange crush. I was off to the races shooting almost every type of .357 bullet there is, not to mention my closet full of cast molds...

    POWDER SELECTION

I see alot of loading for pistol rounds 357 41 44 in carbine rifles. But there is alot of experimenting going on. Makes me nervous. Hodgen Lil Gun seems to have alot going for it.

    Tips on 350 Rem Mag?

I owned the model 600 till a bear sat on it in Alaska. Now I own a 660 Remington. I decided on the 350 over the 35 Whelen not so much on calibre but on rifle. This gun was going to be dragged around 99% of the time and maybe or maybe not going to be shot at something. I shoot 180 grain...

    .307 Lev. Rev. experiment results

Have you guys looked at the latest issue of handloading? It has a cut away and how the bullets touch the cartridge in front of it. Makes you wonder. I have been shooting flat tip 450 Alaskans and now I am a little nervous. It makes for good reading.

    The Esoteric .308 Winchester

I would like to point out that dull 308 can take light loads to kick like a 30-30 So the wife can shoot it and work her way up. With all theses magnum rounds why is it that the 308 is still the number one choice for compitition shooting? If you could get tighter groups we all would take the...

Cost of hunting beyond what most can pay?

good article. Capitalism is based on supply and demand. If someone is qualified for the job they should be able to apply for it. To not let them is called racisim. If there are more cable workers than needed price will go down. This is normal. Somewhere or some how these new people had to...
