Holy Cow!!
Look at the size of that row!!
Are you really getting 3001fps out of the 250grs?!?
That’s outstanding!
I just want to up the psi a little. But now I know it can be loaded much higher.
Hawk
I’m not really knowledgeable on this, but I’m sure y’all probably are.
Are chamber throats average length in the 35 Whelen, or do they tend to run a little long like in the 9.3x62?
If they are a little long, then the bullets might be seated a little further out, and that is a possibility as to...
I
I fully understand, and I’m not taking it as an argument. I believe you.
I’m just trying to figure out if, 1) that the guy I know is full of bull hockey, 2) if it’s feasible to even try to get up to 62k-64k psi area.
Thank you for letting me know about the case head separation issues. That...
I know this is beating a dead horse sort of….
Is there anyway possible to run 35 Whelen QL loads at 62k psi, please?
225 gr AB, and 250 gr NP please.
24 inch barrel, 1-14 twist.
Thank you in advance !
Hawk
Surprisingly, to me, the 35 bullets have excellent BC’s! Yup, if needed, one can stretch the 35 Whelen legs quite a bit. The difference in BC and SD really don’t come into play until it starts getting to 600 yds. That’s well within the ranges I hunt.
From what I’ve seen, the 35 Whelen has no...
Thank you!
I know this is argumentative, and I truly don’t mean to be, but when a normal .35 Whelen is loaded to the same pressures as an AI, there isn’t a lot of difference.
I know a guy on the African Hunting site, using CFE223, and pushing 225 gr bullets out over 2900 fps. He said that’s...
I’m thinking 200 grs up to 275, or maybe something in the 280’s.
I read somewhere that Remington’s Cor-Lokt 200 gr bullets were made for the ballistic twin 350 Rem Mag, so I might start there.
Barrel swap is fairly easy and straightforward. Not too time consuming, thankfully.
The barrel I bought cost a little less than a JES rebore.
It’s well worth it to switch to .35 Whelen, I think!
Hey Y’all!!
I wanted to show you guys my Savage 110 .35 Whelen project is almost done.
I just have to inlet the stock just a tad more, and the magnum contour barrel will fit perfectly in the stock!!
Here is a pic of it so far!!
Hawk
I don’t doubt that whatsoever! As you said,It’s a sight to behold as well.
With medium bores, it seems like they don’t have to work as hard as smaller calibers, along with big bore rifle rounds.
Hawk
The thing I like about the medium bores, is that you can see them in, slow mo hunting videos, create a Doppler effect when they hit a game animal. I haven’t seen that with smaller caliber cartridges, other than a .270 Winchester.
They tend to make a shockwave almost immediately on impact, that...
Thank you for responding!
Yeah, I know it’s probably been gone over several hundreds of times already. I just didn’t find many old threads about it.
Don’t get me wrong, I know the .375 H&H is a classic, and it’s taken more African game than any other cartridge, rifle combo.
I am hoping the .375...
Thank you DrMike.
I had a 375 H&H a few years ago, and that was a push, just like you mentioned.
I figure, if I load it like a 375 H&H, it should give around the same push, I would think.
The old Ruger M77 rifles had very thin butts, and with magnum rounds, it was almost intolerable.
Hopefully...
