Any 7-08 users out there achieving better than 2800fps avg MV from Varget using 140gr BalTips???
I’m charged up to 41.5gr powder reaching 2750 avg MV, but 42gr has shown pressure signs before. [emoji848]
Thinking of switching to H4350.
Any help or similar powder load comparisons would be...
Have head and neck shot deer with smaller polymer tipped projectiles, and while kill shots, I was not happy with the slow death trauma, so am seeking a heavier weight projectile that will stabilise in a slow twist .22-250. So I think I’ve found it, and with tweaking the seating depth a bit...
@Alderman
Fun to read that someone else on the forum from the other side of the Pacific is trying out 60g PTs in .22-250 at the same time I am [emoji1360]
I’m shooting a Tikka T3x with 1:14” twist 22” barrel with suppressor.
Shooting very well, with my best group last weekend being 0.58” @...
I found the same recently when comparing my 7mm-08 loads. Aren’t the vast majority of commercial factory barrels 22”?
If so, Nosler using 24” barrels in test is frustrating at best, as we can’t really use the manual for benchmarking.

Yes! Good combo with Varget, although I found slightly better results with Benchmark.
Mine is Tikka T3 1:8"
53gr V-Max, Fed205, 24.5gn Benchmark, 2.289 COAL
53gr V-Max, Fed205, 24.0gn Varget, 2.289
I had no luck with jump in mine, so kissing lands produced my best 5 shot group at 100metres of...
Hi @desertcj
I have to say it...try reducing your load a bit maybe? Drop back to around 44.5-45.0 and play with .02 increments in seating depth. You should be grouping much better than this at only 100yds

+ 1 for the above.
My rifle loves 53gn V-max and also 55gn BT with both Benchmark (BM2) and Varget (AR2208). 24.5gn Varget has proven to be the ducks nuts for me in my Tikka T3 using 55gn BT shooting best group of 0.2" at 100m

Would never sell mine. I bought it for NZ$400, put a Timney trigger on it and modified some of the steel so more user friendly...shoots sub MOA with factory ammo and is more than twice my age!

Went out this frosty morning with no wind and enjoyed testing both my Tikka T3 .223 and .22-250, comparing Nosler BT, Sierra HPBTMK, and Hornady V-Max.
Nosler 55gr BT were excellent at 24.5gr AR2208/Varget in the .223 Rem.
But I was stoked to see this result in my .22-250 using 37.5gr...
@desertcj
I have a Tikka T3 in 7-08 and have found a sweet spot using Barnes TTSX 140g with Fed brass, Fed Match primer and 41gr AR2208/VARGET. I'll leave you to work out your COAL for your rifle
