200gr Hornady FN excellent deer and black bear bullet

Over the years I collected 3 vintage Win 71 rifles gave each to my sons for Alaskan hunting. Always used the 250gr Barnes Orginal FN and Reloader 19 for reloading the 348 Win for Bear/Moose hunting. I have vintage Redfield peep sights installed on both theirs.

Reloader 19 has performed very well with 250gr and 200gr in 348 Win Win 71 (1952). Suggest stock up on 348 Win WW brass and good bullets like Hornady 200gr FN and Speer 220gr FN and Barnes Original 250gr FN.

Same Rifle Mine shoots better without Muzzle Brake 175gr Barnes LRX 175 LRX 2.795” CFE 223 @ 47.1 WW brass and Fed 210M

BAR in 308 Win suggest IMR 4064 ! WW brass and Fed 210M primers with 150gr I kinda favor the 165gr Speer Hotcore or Gold Dot in my 308 Win Learn to clean the piston in the BAR

Browning BAR works great with IMR 4350 in 30-06/300WM and 338 WM. Suggest RCBS small base sizer Die and Lee Factory Crimp Die. Unlike the REM 742 that required IMR 4895 or similar burn rate powder.

Highly suggest Reloader 17 as a replacement for IMR 4320 in 338-06 WBY with 225gr NP or Hornady SP 2700 fps

IMR 4320 and 200 Ballistic Silver Tip is a good combination

yes don’t load Military 7.62 brass like 308 Win civilians brass . The case capacity is less in 7.62mm brass. I have had great accuracy in the 42 grains with 175 Sierra MK and 43 grains with 168 SMK with IMR 4064 and Fed 210M in LC Match Brass. LC Match is good brass but it’s thicker so less case...

For a semi auto don’t forget the Lee Factory Crimp Die I was kind of fond of the 165gr Speer Hot Cor for Deer hunting in the 30/06 in the BAR with IMR 4350 @ 57.5.

I live just South of Fairbanks in North Pole but yes Grayling are still in the Chena River. Grew up in NC shooting Deer and Black Bear with 30/06 and 308 Win both using 150gr Speer Hot Core and IMR 4895.

Either will work at the ranges you selected . Question is do you need a premium bullet for a 120/150lb deer ? Think not ! I suggest take a good look at the Speer 150gr Hot Core SP and Hornady 150gr Interlock SP . Great choice 308 Win suggest for reloading CFE 223 or Varget and IMR 4985.
