Great link and good advice. Last year, I helped a quadaplegic try and get set up for deer hunting. His original injury was from a fall from a deer stand. From what I remember it was 10 feet up or less. Be careful! CL
BTW- thats one tough, motivated deer hunter. Dont know if I would....
Must have been a rewarding day- to have your rifle/load perform well and see your daughter have success as well! Pretty nice goat too! Good to see you out having fun! CL
Ernie- Good luck with the Pronhorn hunt! As a personal favor, please stop posting those one hole group pictures.... There arent enough sand bags to get me shooting like that with my rifles.... its depressing... ;):). (kidding- Nice work! & Good Luck! CL )
Dad used Speers exclusively (not sure if they were always Hot Core's) in the 7mm Mag. Initially they were super accurate. In later years he complained that the rifle would no longer shoot. Could have been any number of potential issues. I know that 130 Gr speer boat tails were deadly on...
80 gr TTSX could be your Huckleberry. 87 Gr Speers are common lately but they are lead, Anyway, they do work well in this one. It has a 1in 14 twist. Havent tried 100 gr's in this one, Factory core lokts are a 2-3 inch group. but not key holing. CL
No idea about hunting them. But made me think of a true story.... Dad is walking along the side of a draw that ran into the Missouri river in SD back in the early 80's. Late november, when any sensible porcupine is hunting a hole to sleep in for the winter. Any way walking on a steep side...
Borrowed Rem 700 BDL in 25-06. Most memorable part other than the deer was a ranging Herters scope. As I recall it had circles of various sizes with corresponding hash marks on the vertical wire Never saw one again.... CL
Shot some of this powder yesterday. Specifically, 38 grains of CFE 223 under an 87gr Speer Hot Core. COAL 2.502. Shot this load out of my mauser (1.25 in group). and my friends model 99. (two hole touching and I pulle dthe third 2in. away.)
I stopped shooting because I was seeing...
Load down either one. But there is wisdom in the 120 gr BT in a 7MM 08. BUT if we venture off the original question, then a 250 Savage is the answer!!! (aw, c-mom, I havent done that in a while ;) ) CL
Ever seen those bespoke ammo boxes out of wood like that? Its not turning, but your buddy could be jealous if you showed up with one of them. Ron Spomer promoted some for a while. CL
Hey all- looking for experiece or resources re: repair of a Burris for a friend. The friend shoots competitively and would like to use a Burris fixed power scope on his competition rifle in an effort to keep him under a weight limit for his class VS a variable power unit. Unfortunately, the...
