Long range shooting out past 500 yards….it matters. For hunting or typical range target shooting, you might have a 1/2” to 1” elevation difference with most common cartridges out at 400 yards because of the 100-150 fps loss/gain due to “temperature sensitivity “. If you are a competitive shooter...
Go for it. You won’t be sorry. Only negative is CFE 223 has a weird smell when fired. I burn so much H335 on the lighter bullets, I guess it will take a while to get used to.
I have experience with CFE 223. I run a 250 gr Speer right at 2600 fps from my 24” barrel. The load is 62.5 grs, Rem 9 1/2 Magnum primer, seated at the standard 3.340 OAL. I do put a light crimp with a Lee FCD. I have only been using this load this year, but it has been a consistent MOA...
I have been using the 180 gr hot cores in my 35 Whelens for the last 6 years. I run them at 2900 fps in my 24” and 2800 in my 22” barrel I have shot 11 deer so far with them with great performance. Closest shot was 40 yards when I shoulder punched a large whitetail doe. Caliber size entry and...
Very surprising results. I have been using that bullet in my 35 Remington for many years, and have never had a deer run more than 15 yds after getting shot with it. Most times they have dropped at the shot. My load in my 336 runs around the same velocity as you’re getting in the Buckhammer...
I am looking to sell the following bullets
150 - 225 grn Accubonds (3 boxes of 50)
One full box of 50 and a partial box of 38 200 grn Accubonds
1 box of 50 225 grn Ballistic Tips
I would like to sell them as a lot. $250 shipped. I will only take a USPS money order.
Nice shooting. I love me some 250 Speers in a Whelen. I find they shoot more consistent than most of the premium bullets and perform every bit as well on game.
I have begun testing 250 gr Speers with CFE223 in my Whelen. Velocity has been good at 2575 through a 22” barrel. Still need to test a couple of increments up since I am still below book max. Grouping at 1 1/4” now but I haven’t got to seating depth tweaks yet. This powder seems to be readily...
I wish I would have bought one of the closeout Model 70’s in .325 WSM that CDNN was selling a few years ago. That cartridge just seemed to make sense, as far as WSM’s go.
You will appreciate that rifle being nose heavy, especially if you step up to 250 gr at some point. It will help with muzzle rise. IMR 4166 is another powder to add to the list. It behaves well in the Whelen.
I’m pretty sure I posted this for you in another thread, but I think it has what you are looking for.
