Thanks to all who provided your insight and experience.
I have made my choice and started the rifle build, I'll post pictures when done.
Kevin Weaver is doing the work for me.
6.5-284
6.5-06AI
6.5-PRC
For long range hunting, antelope, sheep, deer possibly elk.
The choices for the rest of the build/components are done but I'm still looking for that right caliber.
I would rather NOT have to fire form brass and be able to buy commercial brass.
The action is a long...
Fotis, first off wow great shooting - as always when you post!
Second, I have a range question, when you shoot like this group is it on sand bags/rests or a locked in rest like a lead sled?
Thanks!
joeelkdouglas asked about what loads I was using
25-06 Nosler brass, Fed 210 match primer, IMR 4350 49 gr, 115 gr Nosler BT
30-06 Nosler brass, fed 215 match primer, IMR 4350 55 gr 165 Nosler accubond
Both these loads shoot under 1 inch in my bolt rifles.
I am slowly upgrading my reloading...
Trying to improve my skills at reloading which I hope equals improved accuracy (or visa versa!).
So on 30-06 or 25-06 loads do you regularly crimp the bullet or not and why?
Thanks!
What is the tool that you use to remove the cross bolt that goes across a Browning Safari and some Winchester bolt rifles, the "nut" has two pin holes in it. I assume you must hold that nut with some sort of tool to take that cross bolt out so you can remove the stock from these rifles.
Once I...
Gentleman,
Any thoughts good or bad regarding the Dakota single shot? Anyone have one? Accuracy? Feel? I have a hankering but am trying to squash it....or embrace it, which do I do?
Thanks
I am going to have my 338 win mag rebarreled. Currently it is 22 inches long - total length - but it has a 2 inch screw off brake with a protective cap, so effective barrel is 20 inches.
I no longer want a brake and am thinking 24 inches, you thoughts on what length is best for this caliber...
Check out the HMA areas that the state has to offer. We have been hunting these for years, yes you must follow the process to apply for a permission slip and it is subject to a drawing but this allows you access to private ranches. The one HMA we hunt is about 12 miles by 12 miles and we have...
This may not be a "rifle" comment/question but what all do you guys use for bench rests at the range to help hold your rifles solid to shoot tight groups?
make model etc much appreciated.
Often with antelope you have limited seconds to get in position, find the animal in your scope, draw an aim point and trig off. A rifle you are familiar with and quick with makes a world of difference. ALSO a 14 power scope means a smaller field of view. I like to make my scope power match...
Been using it for a while in multiple calibers, love it!
Just got a new box of 308 Nosler brass and I could NOT get Federal match primers to seat into the primer pocket. Some got halfway in but no further, so I had to run them into the reloading die to "de-prime" them.
I did get Winchesters...
I have tried many packs, but keep coming back to my Nimrod fanny pack with shoulder straps and rifle scabbard. Hands free walking, rifle is ready very quickly and your hands are free to use binos hanging on your chest without the balancing act trying to keep your sling on your shoulder while...
I have killed two moose with my 338, used factory Federal 250 gr Partition ammo and it worked great, they grouped under 1 inch and I could never find a reload that shot quite as well.
I recently asked which rifle for sheep, you will get some great answers on this forum.
I can answer this one as I have killed a few elk. I have neve used anything smaller than a 30 cal, just my history, but I have used and made kills with 30-30, 30-06, 32 Win Sp, 300 Savage, 300 Weatherby 30-06...
