    Tikka T3x 6.8 Western

Looks like ADG is starting to work 6.8W / 270 wsm brass. I saw in shot show podcast that Nosler is looking at 6.8 Western and 300 prc next. Hope that pans out too! I posted this on FB group: Hey folks, this dealer is looking to start taking orders for initial runs ADG Cartridge Brass. I...

    25-06 future

I think the main issue is the manufacturers could probably just make nothing but 9mm and 223 and use all their resources year round and sell everything they can make. Tacticool rounds like 308 have crossover appeal with hunting so next on list. Purely hunting rounds are getting pushed to...

    Nosler 2024 Bullet Wish List

Hornady did say they were discontinuing interbonds. In a few of their podcasts they have said they are expensive to manufacture and hard to get to shoot accurately. Focusing on the softer high BC bullets apparently so don’t expect anything new. CX is their tough bullet Lou

    Nosler 2024 Bullet Wish List

277 170 accubond! That 277 170 btip works great by the way. Super accurate in my 8 twist 270 wsm and son took a nice buck with it this year. Performed great! Lou

    Tikka T3x 6.8 Western

I had a Win 70 stainless classic 7 wsm that had bedded in a mcmillan stock rebarrled to 6.8W with 24” hs precision 1-8 barrel. Super accurate and well balanced rifle so I did not want to chop it to run a suppressor and ended up buying a xbolt SR which is also very accurate;). Run a trash...

    Tikka T3x 6.8 Western

Sweet rig! I really like the 6.8W! Very mild recoil for the down range ballistics. Lou

    6.8 Western?

Have 2 6.8 now. Excellent round. Been hammering pigs with them on my place in TX. Mild recoil, very accurate, and hard hitting. Earth shattering … no but an excellent design from factory. Of the new rounds I like the 6.5 cm and 6.8W the best. Both are very pleasant to shoot for the down...

    Hammer Bullets

I have only tried the hammer hunters and used barnes ttsx load data and got similar velocities. Not tried the AH so no comment there Lou

What's so Special about the 270 Win?

Pretty simple. The 270 drives its most popular weight bullet (130) to magnum velocities without magnum recoil or need to handload or use special high bc bullets to get great ballistics or performance down range. It is a pretty good recipe for most hunting. New bullets have only made it better...

338-06 Loads with 200gr Hornady SST

Heck ya! That’ll do. Crazy how good the medium bores will shoot Lou

    270 150 grain accubond

I would try a different powder. H4831 is normally go to with 150s but maybe something else will work better. Lot of options these days for powders but who knows what is available Lou

270 win 150gr Accubond long range wont group

1-10 is fine for this bullet. Of course your rifle may not be 1-10 but that is standard 270. ABLR seem to be pretty finicky in general. Try seating deeper - .1 or .15 off even if close is not working. In general I have had few instances where a historically accurate rifle really hates the...

    Real World .270 Win Velocities

I will also point out that if your buddy’s “real world” .308 velocities are faster than manual load velociities he is at higher pressure. Velocity is not free, even if no pressure signs…

    Real World .270 Win Velocities

With 24” barrel it is no problem to get 3150-3200+ With 130s and 2950-3000+ with 150s these days. I just used alliant published load data and got just over 3200 fps with 130 partitions and RL16 in my kimber 84l. I went with 1 gr below max as slightly more accurate and still at 3140 fps. One...

    Bullet Wish List for 2022

    277 165 or 170 accubond! A 277 170 partition as well.

    270 Loads...what happened?

The 270 is alive and well. The newest version of H4831 is not the velocity champ in the .270 anymore, but is less sensitive to temperature. That being said, it is still an excellent choice and depending on the manual gives anywhere from 3000-3150 fps with 59-62 gr of powder. There are several...

    Kimber Montana .270 WSM

I have had 3 kimbers - 270 WSM Montana, 300 WSM Montana, and 270 84L Classic Select. All have functioned great and shoot great. I recently sold the 300 WSM, but still have the others. I have bought them all though the years. Apparently there are some lemons out there from what other posters...

270 win + Heavy bullets HELP

Woodleigh recently introduced a 180 Weldcore for the .270. Hawk makes some heavy - 165 & 180 gr .270 bullets as well. Lou

    .270 160 partition

The 160 is a semi-spitzer, but it does offer a reasonably high BC (.434) in the range of some "long range" partitions such as the 120 .257, 130 .277, 140 .284, and 165 .30 cal. If I wanted to use the 160 .270 bullet, I wouldn't worry about the shape being too blunt for long range work. Lou

    a typical boned core bullet.....

Towsley is about as close to a modern day Elmer Keith as we have (this is not an insult). Towsley is a big bore guy and takes shots at the .270 every now and then. I remember the article, but thought the 140 bonded bullet he mentioned was the Remington CL Ultra and said he was dissapponted...
