Greg, I'm hoping that someone with more experience than I have with the .325 will chime in, but meanwhile - I found that 70 grains of IMR 4831 and WLRM primers behind the 195 grain Hornady bullets give me 2943 fps and shoot into about 0.7". In my rifle, a Kimber 8400, 2.89" OAL gave the best...
Long ago I had an 03-A3 that was like that only worse, the first shot wouldn't even print on the target. After that it settled right down. Never did get it diagnosed.
One way to get point of aim and point of impact together is to carefully fire one shot at the bull, then get the rifle...
Hmm. I get just over 2800 fps with that same load (RL-19) except I went up to 69 grains and used partition bullets. Also fired from a Kimber 8400, 24" barrel. I did not crimp the bullet, and used 2.86" for OAL. Since I wasn't content with the velocity, I didn't experiment with seating depth...
Haven't used it, hadn't heard of it until reading your post, but after looking at IMR's data on their website I definitely will try some out. Should be interesting to see if data from the real world agrees with IMR's.
Now I know the reason for my steadily declining IQ! Anyway, I believe the writing is on the wall, and the days of lead shot and bullets are numbered. Might as well start checking out the alternatives now.
Yeah, I bought it at Starvin' Marvin's. I try to buy most of my shooting stuff there to support my local gunnie, even though Marv keeps trying to drive me and all his other customers away! Actually I think Marv has mellowed some - or maybe I'm just getting used to him.
I no longer work, there...
Thanks for the response Jeff. I'm in Eugene too.
The Kimber feeds the rounds smoothly enough. It's one of the 8400 models which Kimber says was designed from scratch as a short magnum rifle. The trigger is phenomenal, you can't feel it move at all but just add pressure and off she goes. I...
I'm shooting a Kimber with a 24" barrel. The Winchester factory ammo is very good, 2867 fps and easily under 1 moa. But so far I haven't been able to get good velocity from a handload, seem to always end up in the mid-2700's and hey, I already have a 30-06. Anyone having better luck?
