Finally getting around to editing the post. I've been shooting for almost 40 years and never really seriously hunted but this is my first deer. I shot with 257 roberts with 110 gr. accubond. Its an older savage that i rebarreled. The load is 44.4 gr. of h-4350 loaded to an O.A.L. of 2.88 inches...
my 22-250 will shoot 50 gr bt's better than any other stock rifle i've seen but the 55's will not shoot. its a ruger. I've never tried any other 55's beside the BT's
they make different size aluminum inserts for kinetic pullers. are you sure you have the right one. Also if you put a old foam ear plug in the bottom of the puller the bullets don"t get deformed and save some money.
i was reading the 30-30 post and that got me thinking to buy the latest version and was wondering if it had the flex tip bullets in it. neco told me they are up to version 3.5 but only show 3.4 on the website
just be aware that as stupid as it sounds taping a bottle to the front of your barrel is making a suppressor which i believe is illegal. not positive and don't think anyone would care around you but you never know.
Do you reload? I could always run some loads in quickload and see what the muzzle pressure pressure is. also not saying the 223 is less noisy depends on how its loaded. if you could load a 150 grain cast lead bullet with about 27.5 gr. of H4895 which is about 60% of there max load for a 150...
the noise depends on muzzle pressure and bullet speed. the higher the muzzle pressure the louder the round. also the crack of the bullet being supersonic also greatly contributes. I'm not sure how the colums are going to line up but this demostrates the diiference. it you have a nice varmit bolt...
bearclaw you showed the right way but wrote it wrong. you don't reduce the load by 60% you reduce it to 60% of max. Thaks for printing that rule of thumb which most people don't know. Also this months handloader magazine lists a load of SR-4759 at 33.0 grains will give a velocity of 2388 fps...
