When a bullet travels down a barrel, it causes what is called harmonics. Harmonics are the vibrations of the barrel similar to a tuning fork. Bullets, brass, primers, different powders, amount of powder and bullet seating depth all affect harmonics. When one or more of these components are...
I have used standard Winchester (WLR) primers in my 300 win mag for years with no problems.Winchester has the hottest standard primer that I know of. The main difference is the cup thickness. The mag primer being thicker of course to handle the higher pressures of the mag calibers. I have never...
the answer to your question is yes. It doesnt hurt a thing to use mag primers in non-mag caibers. Just be aware that you MUST rework the load up from the beginning. Mag primers generally cause more pressure than standard primers with the same load. Also some manuals recommend them for use with...
Check the OAL of the cases after you resize them. I can almot guarantee that they will be slightly longer than they started out. If you can get your hands on some Lake City brass, try some of them. BUT be careful with miltary brass as it is much thicker and loads will have to be worked back up...

It's a 6.5x284 Win. Douglas premium on a Savage action and laminated stock. Working up a load right now. Shooting in the mid to high .3's. Trying to get it a little better.
Is the 6.5 100gr BT bullet substantial enough for shoulder shots on whitetail at a muzzle velocity of 3400-3500 fps? Or Should I be concerned with break-up?
Thanks Fred. After looking at other data I went with 46.5 grns to start. judging by pressure signs, It looks to be about a medium load. It gave me 3261fps average velocity from a 25 inch barrel. Will work up from there and post results. Thanks again guys.
