Saturday was one of those days that may have been best to stay home.
I have a buddy that just purchased his first rifle and wants to start hunting. A Remington SPS Stainless in 30-06 - potentially a great selection for a first rifle when Mulies & Elk are on the menue.
I grabbed my .300RUM & .257Bee with new loads and to the hills we went.
We found a phenominal spot to shoot - not hardley anyone around & the GPS was tickling 11,800 in elevation. A huge welcome due to the t-mometer was to be hitting around 97deg at home.
We get the table out and set up, gun rests etc. and get the first two sight in shots fired with the 30-06 when two others show up. When they asked if we minded if they stopped and shot with us, I was "ASSUMING" that meant "by you" not using your bench / targets as well............
A small arsenal was pulled out - handguns, shotguns, AR's &  the highly talked up "long range 7mag in a Choate stock & Mil Dot Scope"
They wanted to get it "tuned in" and asked if they could shoot the 100yd target we had set up.... Well of course - we have to see what this thing can do......
Well - after somewhere around an eight shot group that might have been able to have been covered by a pie-plate they were tuned in and ready for some long-range rock busting.
Well  this is at the point >> Guys meet Mr .300RUM - lets play the rock game
The old loads I had actually perfomed great & consistent out to around 650yds.
I only got to shoot one of my new loads RL-25 & 190VLD's. I think I might have a winner here - I only had enough RL-25 left for 3 rounds and did a pretty thorough scrubbing before hand.
Hope to get out with the chrony next weekend and see how it does.
