From another forum!

Called and spoke with Hornady and they said they are setting a record surpassing 1 Billion bullets mfg this year for the first time. That's crazy! I believe they said they have added new equipment and are running 24/7 and can't keep up with demand.

And I still can't find the bullets I want!

That is just incredible! I do believe the manufacturers are producing all the bullets they can; they simply can't keep up with demand.

...talked to a tech @ Sierra this morning, while getting some data for a new bullet. He said basically the same thing, & blamed you guys for buyin up & hoarding all the bullets...  8)

Many stores that aren't ONLINE have a goodly supply of reloading items. It pays to patronize your local GSs. I found bullets, primers and powder today, even some .22LR ammo  !

There's an interesting article in the latest American Rifleman re the ammo/component shortage - and essentially the author comes down to saying that it's mostly unprecedented demand for ammo...

I have no trouble believing that.

He makes a lot more of a case than that, but I don't want to re-type his article!

Regards, Guy

My old home town is Anoka MN, home of Federal Cartridge. I still know many employees and sometimes run into their reps at local ranges or outdoor shows.

They are also running 24/7, mandatory overtime and taking in materials by the trainload, literally. They've added new equipment, and un-mothballed some machinery and buildings that haven't made ammo since the Vietnam war. It's a boom time in the industry for sure. I think things are starting to catch up. Some local guys are letting go of some of their stashes at local auctions and shows while the prices are still up. If it's like the last big scare, the crash in prices will come hard and fast after Christmas and there'll be some good deals to be had.

I actually purchased a lb of Varget the other day!!! In Longview Washington. You just have to catch the right place and the right day.

Good article Guy...first thing I read when the latest addition came in the mail.

Thank God I am good on everything!

G'Day Fella's,

FOTIS, thank you for posting this thread, man that's a awful lot of bullets!
I assume a lot of this demand has been driven by the USA's #1 Gun Salesman, your President - Borat O'Bongo???

Merry Christmas

On December 4th we had a new Bass pro shop open in palm bay. I spoke with a salesman behind the gun counter which faces 8 large shelves of reloading components. He mentioned that they had a decent selection of all components when opening and within five minutes the reloading area had at least two dozen people on cell phones grabbing everything in sight. He knew some of the people as gun show vendors and realized right away that the components were going to be resold. There was a sign indicating that ammo quantities were being limited due to shortages and he did have words with a customer over taking 10 five hundred bricks of .22's instead of the one allowed. This is definitely a major part of the problem.

What would a profit margin on one bullet be, including rejects and seconds? 0.10$? Maybe not that high 0.05$ ? 50 million 1 yr times in the ammo business looks good, like farming makes up for some lean years , hopefully they are smart enough to pay off some dept , up grade machinery and keep good honest Americans employed.

That is a good score Bill. I haven't seen any of that on a shelf in God knows how long.

I thought that was how many bullets you have fired working up loads for the 4,261 firearms you have owned.

I've heard that the Doe Run lead smelter in Herculaneum, Missouri will shut down the end of this month because of EPA rule changes. This is the last remaining domestic lead smelter. Some believe its the result of backdoor gun control. I wonder what this will do to bullet manufacturers...

I've been watching this for some time. I tend to agree with Allen West in registering concern about EPA intents in imposition of regulations. There are some other lines of thought at this thread: http://www.noslerreloading.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26450.
