I want to start loading for my 10mm. Is there a good bullet and load that would both be a good practice round and personal defense round? With the current state of supplies I'd like to backorder in bulk, so I want to make a good choice the first time. I'm thinking like a 150gr JHP? The Nosler book (6th ed) seems to recommend Unique as the most accurate powder for this bullet weight. I have the stock barrel.

I load the 150 grain bullets up to about 1200 fps in my .40 S&W revolver with IMR 4756. The 180 grain bullets are considered optimum weight for this caliber.

thanks. longshot looks like it's at the upper end of velocity though - probably not the best choice for a practice round?

I did not find it too bad for practice or recoil. Very accurate though. I liked to practice with what carried. Even though I totally understand practicing as cheap as you can too.

The 180 grain XTP is a great bullet in the 10mm. I have some 200 grain Nosler JHPs I picked up from SPS last summer that I would like to load up.

I mostly shoot a 180 grain cast bullet in my 10mm, using just enough W231 to make USPSA Major.

Email me and I will send you mine. Have had a bunch of 10's since "95

My current 10 and on of the best out there

is that a tangfolio? my gunsmith tried to sell me one of those instead of my glock but I didn't know much about them and was set on a glock. that is a sweet looking gun! match grade barrel right? I sent you a pm on the load

I shot a boatload of 200gr CMJ Montana gold bullets out of the pair of tens that I have owned. I pretty much duplicated the buffalo bore load and used it for personal carry and as bear defense. They will easily punch stem to stern on a 6' black bear and are accurate and kill well. You simply can't touch the montana gold bullets for the price, they are the same bullet in the buffalo bore loading.

I used starlin brass and AA #9 for 1200fps.

I have used the 165gr speer gold dot on whitetails and found them to be very effective.

I also ran some 220gr cast bullet loads but didn't find them to penetrate any more than the montana gold CMJ bullets. 200gr XTP mag bullets worked well for dedicated hunting loads. I didn't waste my time downloading the 10mm, recoil isn't a problem even with the hottest loads and if your gonna use a 10 don't try turning it into a 40 S&W.

Well, I have tracked down some Hornady 200 grain XTPs, 300 WLP primers, 500 CCI 300 Primers, and Unique powder. Beggars can't be choosers. Now, I just need brass and dies and I will be set! And shell holders I suppose. I know the Hornady book had a Unique load for the 200 gr XTPs, that is what I plan on starting with.
