I'll be using this bullet for my 1K shoot tomorrow. The wind forecast will be around 5-10 MPH WNW with temperature at 69 degrees and humidity at 70% . You could not ask for a better condition. The Desert Marksman Shooting Range in Palmdale, California has an elevation of 4,000 ft ASL. With muzzle velocity at around 2950 fps, the 155 still have 1605 fps velocity when it cross the 1K mark. Time of flight will be around 1.3 seconds according to Exbal. This will be about 25.5 MOA from my 100 yard zero. I segregated 25 reloaded rounds that measured less than .002 run-out to be use for the record shot. It's all up to the shooter tomorrow to guide those bullet into the X zone. :)

Good luck DF! Hope you clean up at the shoot. Sounds like it is going to be a good time out there. Looking forward to seeing your 1K pictures. Scotty

I can't believe there will be a better shooter to guide the bullet. You've don't your homework. We are all pulling for you.

Well, sorry guys!!! didn't do too well today. As usual, the Primadonas got to shoot first early in the morning when the ambient light was great and the wind was not a factor. By the time my turn came in the afternoon, the wind pick-up and it created havoc on smaller caliber shooters. But hey! no excuse. There are few that were able to score in the 190's. My score was 173 with only 2 X ring. I love the challenge using the 308 though. I learned a lot about this caliber today. I will be competitive next time with this round. The Scenar performed well as expected. It's the driver behind the wheel that did not deliver.

Here's the pictures from the match this morning.

Two Gruning built 308 here.

These two kid kick some A$$. The kid on the left won the small caliber class. The kid on the right won the smallest group at 600 yards.

Wild Bunch eh?

Thanks for sharing your experiences. 1K is challenging, shot after shot after shot...

A little mirage, a little wind... It gets TOUGH!

DF,

That is great stuff. You stimulate a lot of us old duffers to want to get back to such activities.

Yes, I've got to admit that the standard NRA prone competition consisting of three strings of twenty, plus sighters, doesn't really excite me anymore. The Palma format of three strings of 15 at 800, 900 and 1000 is better, but still turns into an all day affair.

It takes most of the day to run three relays through. At a comp, I'll spend less than an hour on the line shooting, but five or six hours scoring, pulling targets, repairing targets, going to and from the target pits, etc., etc... I used to have the patience for it, but don't seem to any longer. I want to shoot, score, and move on.

That's why some of these newer, non-standard competitions appeal to me. I think I would have enjoyed DF's 1,000 yard shoot.

Great Post DF, Thanks for sharing...

I gotta chuckle about the primadonna comment. It is unfortunate, but that exact scenario plays out at a lot of comps/ranges...

But you went shooting, had a good time, and learned a few driving trix I am sure. I sure like reading about your shooting adventures, please keep em up..

DF,

Looks like fun! Even with the wind and mirage, it is still fun.

Guys, it was a blast. I love shooting the 308 even though it's not an easy cartridge to shoot at 1K by any means. What I found out from this match was that, you have to have more patient when shooting the 308. It's very unforgiving cartridge. You're not gonna win a lot of matches with this round but you can be competitive once you mastered it. Our next competition is not gonna be until January so I have more time to work on getting the 308 ready by then. The HS Precision stock has to go! that's for sure. I really like the feel of the A-4 so I will be looking for one. The IOR is also questionable. I cannot get it to focus right. The parallax adjustment was maxed out but I can't get a clear picture. I'll probably replace it with either Leupold TMR or a NightForce with NPR1. Man! more project but I ain't complaining.
