Now that I have a load worked up for this gun with a 180 gr AccuBond, I'm working on one with a 165gr BT and I'm starting out with IMR-4831 and was wondering what powders you've had luck with for this bullet?

I have used RL-17 which has similar burn rates as the imr 4350 (so I have been told) I have tried working low to high and high to low without much success. Here is my post from a similar topic discussing this particular combination.

I have a tikka3 .300 wsm and have been playing hard with 165gr BT with little success on tight groups. As you stated I was getting flyers far to often. I too also use the RL-17 but the CCI 250 primers with 64.0 and 64.5 gr and have seen pretty good groups without flyers. My best group was with a 168gr BT 64.5 RL-17 CCI 250 primers getting around 3050FPS. This was set .070 off the lands.

Now all that being said, I have tested every combination of RL-17 up to 66.5 gr and the Nosler 165gr BT and AB and it steadily got larger groups at 200 yards. My buddy also has a .300 WSM and shoots pretty consistant groups at 100 yards with 180 gr BT and 64.0gr of RL-17 and CCI 250s. Here is what I found with RL-17

64.0 = avg 3050 FPS 5 shot group @ 200 yards 2.1"
64.3 = avg 3100 fps 5 shot group @ 200 yards 2.5"
64.5 = avg 3120 fps 5 shot group @ 200 yards 4.9" (two flyers)
64.7 = avg 3130 fps 5 shot group @ 200 yards 3.4"
My guess the sweet spot for this round is around 2900-3000 FPS.

I am working up loads for the 168gr ST this week. I have had good success with the 168gr BT in the past. Hope this helps.

tecumseh,

I've had excellent success with a variety of 165-168 grain bullets using IMR 4831. In fact, it is my "go to" powder for the 300 WSM. I also have observed some excellent results with Hunter and Big Game and IMR 4350.

I've tried three powders with 165gr bullets and they all worked well for me.65.0grs of IMR-4350,69.0grs of Winchester WXR and 69.0grs of Reloader-22.These loads are 1.5-2.0grs below max in my rifle, I quit right there because they all shot real tight.

SInce you already have IMR 4831, start there. You may not have to look any further. :grin:

IMR4831 should produce good accuracy in the 300WSM, but it will depend on the chamber for good to decent velocities. Will be interesting to see what youe Chrony reads.
