I am shooting a Lazzeroni Warbird, I am looking at which bullet to choose for this cartridge. I am torn between the 190 or 210 AccuBond LR.

My muzzle velocity per Quickload at max would be for the 190 = 3237 fps. The 210 =3096 fps.

Using the Optimal Barrel Time I need to be at around 3087 fps for the 190's and at 3031 fps for the 210's.

Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

I moved this to the Reloading section where you will get more visibility.

waveslayer, can I ask some questions:

1. What ambient temperatures do you shoot in? Could affect the stability of your bullets...

2. What is the twist rate of your barrel? Same reason as #1.

3. Do you have magazine box limitations?

Ambient air ranges from freezing to 70's. It's my all around hunting rifle.

My twist rate is 1/12

I will load these to 3.6 COL. Yes I have a magazine box. But I can load them longer

I have been working with the 190's in a Win mag. I have a 1-10 and its giving me a workout. It seems to be OL sensitive. I am also having a problem getting loads to repeat. A work in progress.

Waveslayer - I've no experience with your Warbird nor the 190 & 210 ABLR bullets.

However I've worn out a few .308 barrels.

My Palma match rifle had a mere 1:13 twist barrel, specifically for 155's, but it shot 168's and 175's beautifully.

My current match rifle has a 1:12 twist and shoots 175/180's just fine, though the 165/168 class bullets are somewhat more accurate.

I think you've got a strong possibility of running conventional 180 gr SPBT bullets accurately. Heavier than that? I don't know...

I think you're right. I will try the 165's

I'm intrigued that your twist is that slow. I worked up loads in quite a few Warbirds throughout the years, and all were ten twist. I don't believe you will be terribly hindered by using a 165/168 grain projectile, however. With a good monolithic or a bonded-core bullet, bullet integrity will be maintained at terminal velocities. True, you will have a lower ballistic coefficient, but you will still be able to reach out quite a distance if need be.

Yes I agree. My dad gifted me rifle when I graduated college and the guy making these rifles used a 1/12 twist swearing by John Lazzeroni's 150 grain specially coated TSX bullet. I assume that's why the slow twist. I was able to get 1.25" groups at 300 yards which is my zero for this rifle. I am using the Barnes LRX in 175 grain though... I will have to play around and then get a new barrel at a 1/10 twist next

I think you'll be quite happy with the 165s. I made my life one step too complicated when I decided I was going to use 180s to hunt and 155s to practice with my 30-06. I should have just picked 165s, and hunted and practiced with 165s.

Of course, I am only 36, so I could still change back to 165s...but I have a healthy amount of 180 Partitions!

Well I have a hunch of 180's too of the Partition. Being 33 I have some time to burn and some barrels to shoot out! But using the 165 would be great for Elk. I had an issue with the 150's breaking up going 3707 fps. I shot some animals in new Zealand and it didn't kill them right away. So I wanted to try something that could hold up with my velocities of the Warbird

A 180 PT zinging along at 3300 fps would hit hard!
I know. But pushing those 180's I think I can get 3300 but I would have to see the accuracy. But those 150's past 150 yards drop them like no tomorrow. It's like a grenade goes off!

The 180 gr PT has a soft front core (all PT's do by design) that would be very impressive when launched at 3300 fps.
