have any of you guys used a barrel tuner ? I have 4 cases , 20,000 rounds , of CCI std velocity ammo . this ammo doesn't shoot well in my Tikka T1x rifle . will a tuner dial this in ? I've never messed with a tuner , and don't know if it would be worth a try .

Jim if you have the new light blue box CCI standard ammo it isn't as good as the old dark blue box. Could be what your accuracy problem is.
Try a different brand like SK standard plus,ELY or Norma Tac standard velocity.

I'm trying to use this ammo , instead of it just setting here . I thought if I could buy a $200 tuner and be able to shoot about $1500 - $2000 of ammo , it would be a good trade off . my grandsons rifle shoots the CCI pretty good. for all the more we get together to shoot , this will be a lifetime or two lifetimes of ammo for him . I have about 8 bricks of eley , and it shoots pretty good in both rifles , and no misfires . funny thing is my pistol I shot bullseye with , shot the CCI pretty good . the eley not so well , and lots of misfires . these rimfires are picky eaters .

Jim I know only too well about finicky high dollar .22 target pistols. Thats why I shared the info on the CCI ammo. This could only get worse since the brand has been sold to an off shore company. One of the reasons we have had so much trouble getting powder and primers since nothing is made in the USA any longer and if it is the chemicals are sourced from foreign companies.

I didn't take any targets along this day . so I made due with what I had . I'm not sure how big the circles are , but the masking tape would be 3/4" wide . I'm not sure how many shots are on the targets . you can see how much better the Eley shoots .

I shot one and put some windage on it . then shot another and added more windage . used the first hole for my aim .

the upper one . the lower one is my grandsons Marlin . I posted it by accident . it's a work in progress . I've had him shooting off a bogpod . the bogpod uses a hog saddle . I took the marlin out the other day after I swapped scopes , and was shooting off a bipod . the stock is too flexible for that . I'll be putting it in a Boyds AT1 stock . I'm waiting for him to decide what color , so I know what to order .

Jim The Tikas shoot good still their no target rifle but then neither is the Marlin but better than most non target rifles.
If you want to get it to shoot bed it in a better stock and do some sear and trigger work on it, if the barrel is light weight sporter have someone flute the barrel that knows what they are doing to stiffen it or have a bull barrel from Walther installed on it.
Wasting money on gimmicks is chasing the rabbit down the hole.
Jim, just curious. What distance did you shoot those targets? What is acceptable accuracy for you?
Don't have any answers, just wondering what your goals were here.

those targets were shot at 50 yards . I just put the scope on the tikka and was getting a 50 yard zero . I shot both ammos again just to be sure I was correct in remembering the Eley being better . I really don't know what to expect , it's not a special target rifle .the only thing I've done is put a light trigger spring in it . so far I have not shot any other ammo than these two , and they are not anyone's pick for shooting like I'm going to be shooting . the guys I shoot with ran a few different types of SK ammo in their CZ's . I was laid up at the time , so I didn't get to test , or see how well theirs shot . I've been going to buy a few different SK ammos to test , but didn't get that involved yet . while I've been looking and reading, I found Whidden gun works sell bricks of test ammo . from what I read, it is a brick of an assortment of different ammo . they also offer indoor ammo testing .their testing is with the rifle out of the stock and mounted in a rest . that takes all the human error, and environmental out of it. I could send them my rifle , or I could go to whidden and they help me do testing on my rifle . I'll never compete so getting them to test , or me going to test is not going to happen . although it does sound like a good time , and I'd probably learn a lot . I think I'll buy a brick of their assortment ammo and test this at home . with Whidden doing this all the time , they probably have a gut feeling of what's going to work in the Tikka . I could probably call them and say send me a brick of what usually shoots best in a Tikka T1x , and save a bunch of monkeying around . next time I go shooting , I'll take targets along and shoot a couple targets to see how well this Eley does shoot .

when I bought the Marlin for the grandson, he was very young . probably around 4 or 5 years old . I thought that would be good enough for him to learn shooting and safety with , and kill a few pop cans . since then the long range bug has bitten me on the rimfires . I'm already sorry I didn't buy him something better . the marlin does seem to shoot well at 150 yards . I think he might have shot it at 200 yards , I don't remember . I know he has shot the tikka at 200yards , maybe 250 yards . I've had him shooting off of a Bog death grip tripod stand . this tripod uses a hog saddle , and he shot very well like this . now I want to get him shooting from prone and the marlin stock is not rigid enough for a bipod . I need to put it in another stock . he is not big enough for an adult stock yet , so I think I'll buy a Boyds AT1 stock , and bed it . I bought the rifle in an adult stock , and bought a marlin kids stock with the rifle . I'll probably end up with more money in the Marlin than I have in the Tikka . ( shaking my head . ) I get it figured out , it should be a good learner rifle for him to learn dialing the scope , reading wind , and shooting different positions . I do need to do a little trigger work too .
Its been a long time since i have done serious 22lr shooting, but if i remeber correctly you wanted to put almost a full 10 fouling rounds through when ever you switched ammo type before looking at a group. Not sure it was really needed but just something to keep in mind if you get that test brick, maybe shoot the full box of 50 before you switch to the next, vs just a mag of each.
