.243 flat base bullets

Some rifles like FB bullets better over BT. I have a custom Rem 700 Shilen barreled 25-06 that will not shoot with BT bullets. It will shoot five shots under 1" at 300 yards with flat base Sierra 117 pro hunters.

WOW. I hope my McGowen can do that.

We have an old browning pre a bolt bilt in Belgin with a medium weight barrel and it doesnt like boat tail bullets either, they shoot ok but thats it, it shoots the 95 BT ok and the sierra BTSP 100gr gameking ok but really shows a preferrence for the sierra pro hunter flat base 100gr. I have read somewhere, I think on the 6br website that the flat base are more accurate out to 300 yards or something, which is longer than most people will ever get a shot at, even in flat west texas the only shot longer than 300 yards I ever took was at stubborn coyotes or rabit, all deer were shot at less than 200 yards last year. Shoot what your gun likes and dont worry about those 1 in 100 shots.

Flat base bullets are actually more stable in flight. Since the difference in balistics in minimal out to 300 yards, the can be a more accurate design. Generally past 300 yards, the benefits of the BT overtake the benefits of the flat base. You will notice that the Nosler Ballistic tip has a slight boat tail. I imagaine this is an attempt to capture the best of both worlds.

Longranger: I have several of Harry McGowen's rifles. They shoot better than I do, without exception. Great rifles IMO.
