I started reloading 25-06. I am using FL Redding dies. Which I purchased used, but they are in great shape.

When I try to pull the expander ball our of the brass on the down stroke of the ram, it is very difficult to get the ball out of the case.

I use a little Imperal Wax on the outside of the neck, but do I need to lube the expander ball or inside of the neck? Do you lube the inside of your dies with Imperal Wax? This seems much more pronounced on the 25-06 than other calibers.

Thanks

You do need to lube the neck. Some people spray Hornady One Shot, or other such spray preparations. This can work quite well. We careful not to get too much on the shoulder so you avoid oil dents. Others use a Q-Tip with just a bit of lube to lube the inside of the neck. I prefer to use a dry lube (e.g. motor mica or Imperial Application Media with graphite). Since you are using Redding dies, you might want to consider purchasing a 25 calibre
Titanium Carbide expander ball.

Lightly lube the inside of the case mouth and your troubles will go away.

That is what I did. Works like a charm and no more lubing the neck.

What does the expander ball really do if I am shooting boat tail bullets.

People have told me to polish it and some have said, just take it out or use a smaller caliber to pop out primers, but not expand the neck.

Thanks

If the expander is tough to pull out, it's probably also distorting the case some. I have a little tin of RCBS case neck lube (mica) and it works pretty good. It lasts a really long time.

If used properly Hornady One Shot SPRAY lube is great. I set all my cases neck up in a loading block and holding the can about 8" away spray them down good making sure some gets inside the case necks. I also give the size die a little shot up in it. LET IT DRY FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. Sizing is slick as butter with NO OIL DENTS.

I just started using this set up. Works excellent with the mica provided and just makes them necks slide right over the expander ball... Worth the 10.00 to have an easier sizing process..

Lube in and out of the neck. Prevents stretching.

I just used One shot today for the first time. It is great. Ran some .270 thru the neck sizer and got no stretch.
