I would like to hear from people that have one or had owned a 25-284.
I'm having one built on a Remington 700 SA and would hear about your loads and experiences.
Thanks
Well it is impressive but does not make for a long lasting barrel. If I would ever have one made it would have to stabilize the biggies and not 40-50 grainers.
I had a 25-284 built on a SA 700. It'd do 3175 fps with 110 gr Accubonds & h4831sc, and real accurate. Great cartridge..just doesnt do much a 260 Remington can do. I like the 6.5mm's a bit more
Just inherited one from my Dad. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, built
on a 722 action. His longest shot was an antelope at 465 yards. Looks
like he used IMR 4350. Will post more when I know more.
well a year and a half later and I was finally able to get my load testing done.
It hates Hornady 100gr and 117gr bullets 3"+
Not so good with Nosler 110gr Accubonds 2"+
very good with Nosler 115gr B-tips and 120gr Partitions .6"-.7" for both using RE25.
If anyone needs 110gr Accubonds with 41 left in the box let me know.
I'm very happy with my new baby
velvet, I've shot both the 110 AccuBond and the 115 gr BT at about 25/284 mv's from my 25 wssm. a deer has never stopped a 115 gr BT at 3000 fps, no matter where I've hit them, double shoulder shots, hard quartering away, doesn't seem to make much difference. can't tell any difference from them or the 110 AccuBond.

A little heads up to try. I don't have a 25-284 but I have had years of experience with the 25-06. Try magnum primers for better accuracy. I use CCI 250's. Also try some flat base bullets. My current 25-06 just will not shoot boat tail bullets to my accuracy standards. It will shoot bug holes with flat base bullets. I like the 117 gr Sierra Pro Hunter for deer size game. It is a real killer and very accurate.
