Ok so as you may have read in some of my other post I put in some range time today.

Ideally I would like to get the new etip to shoot but would be happy with the AccuBond for now as pretty much any powder I put behind the AB gets a descent group.

I had descent results with the etip and rl 22 so I will continue with that.

So here lies th mystery I can get a group maybe a descent group to ok group then I shoot the same load out of resized 7mag brass and it shrinks! I guess I should look at the bright side as brass is much cheaper.

So here lies the question the difference in brass really only seems to be the length of the neck. which means that in regular weatherby brass the bullet is in contact with more brass as the overall length is the same.

Also any ideas about a powder to use in this round with the etip? What about retumbo? throw me a bone

Just returned from the range working with the .257 Weatherby and the 100 grain Nosler E-Tip. Did preliminary work last week and had several good three shot groups at 100 yards. RL 19 looked real good with two groups under .5 inch at 3360 FPS.

Shooting partner bet me that I could not resist and would try to go faster. He won. Wanted to shoot Friday but it was very windy. Today was perfect. Clear and very slight breeze. Tried bumping up RL 22 and the groups got worse.

I have had very good luck with IMR 7828 SSC with the 110 AccuBond. Three shot groups in the low 3's at 3400 FPS. I was concerned about the longer bearing surface of the E-Tip and subsequent pressure spikes. With 68.0 grains of IMR 7828 SSC first shot was one inch high and one inch left. Second and third shot in the same hole .5 inches away. Three shots with 68.5 IMR 7828 SSC produced the prettiest little .290" loverleaf. No chronograph but easily 3400 FPS.

These were loads that I loaded after last weekends range session. I wanted to break 3400 FPS and still have the accuracy. In looking at the book H1000 seemed to have potential and does excellent in (2) different 7 mm Rem. Mag. that my son and I shoot. I was down to my last four E-Tips. I was able to re-supply on Friday. The disclaimer in the box says that the mid-range load will be the maximum for the E-Tip. With both RL19 and RL22 that was exactly the case.

The mid-range load for H1000 is 73.5 grains. So loaded the last four at 73.5 grains. Bore-snaked the Weatherby. First shot 1" high and 1" inch left. Next three cloverleaf at .320" and easily over 3400 FPS. The advantage being that H1000 is an Extreme powder.

Both of the above mentioned loads will be chronographed next Saturday morning weather permiting.

The standard and usual precautions should be exercised. These loads worked in my rifle. Each rifle is different.

Try IMR 7828 SSC and H1000 I think you will be pleased. Good Luck.

Jerry,

Nice shooting! Looks like you are there.
Time to put the smack on a song dog with the 257 100 gr E-Tip.

Nitis and JD338,

Had the chance to chrony both loads this morning. 7828 SSC clocked at 3480 with under one inch group and the H1000 load 3450 and right at one inch. I wasn't on top of my game on the trigger but I liked the speed.

Absolutely no metal fouling in the barrel. Primers flat, but they usually are with .257 Bee.

RL 25 worked well for me also. Nice shooting there.

Pop

did you try RL25 with the Etip?

Not sure if I will make it to this project this weekend or not I am really close on the ultramag so it has my attention right now!

But I will try a few groups of both Etips and Accubonds now that I am down to 2 powders one brass and 2 bullets should make life a little easier!
