I need help with a load for the 257 using 11o grain accubonds i used the ballistic tips and they shoot great but have a problem with them blowing up so i want to try accubonds but cant get them to group at all please help wwith some of your loads

I do not want to sound negative here, but it may be that your particular rifle just will not shoot the Accubonds well at all.

Rifles are all different, to be sure.

When the Accubonds first came out I tried them in a number of rifles with dismal results.
In my .338 Win Mag they shot 3 inch groups while Partitions would stay under an inch over and over. Then I tried them in my buddies .338 and a couple of 340 Weatherby's' same poor performance. Then I tried them in a 338 RUM and it shot groups so small I still do not believe it! (three shot groups of 0.37 inches, back to back) Yet, my 300 Wby Mag shoots them very poorly as well.

I have had mixed results with Accubonds. I have since tried them in a 270 WSM, a 7mm-08, a 7mm Rem Mag, and a 300 WSM. They all shot them quite well.

But you just have to test things to see what works. My latest rifle purchase, a Remington 700 XCR in 300WSM shoots Sierra Pro Hunters and Accubonds into very small groups and will not shoot Partitions worth a darn.

My buddy has had good luck with the Accubonds in his .257 Weatherby. He has shot antelope, deer, and wild hogs with it. I do not know what powder he is using, though.

I suspect that the problem may be your rifle. Earlier .257 MkVs made before 1972 had 12" twists, which will stabilize a 100 BTip but not a longer, heavier bullet. The AB is both and would need a tighter twist to group. Modern MkVs have 10" twist rates, which would explain why other .257 shooters have good luck with the 110 ABs. Measure your twist rate - you may have to forgo the ABs and use 100-grain Partitions instead.

Ive been shooting 115 grain ballistic tips and they are great shooting but the seem to blow up a bit at close ranges thats why i thought id try the accubonds

Okay, then you don't have the old twist rate, good. We really can't help much unless you tell us what you have tried. It may be as stated above, your rifle may just not like the 110ABs - but I'd sure try some different powder combinations before I gave up. Are you seating the bullets any deeper or shallower than the 115s? What powders have you tried? What worked well with the 115s?

With the 115 grain ballistic tips my load is 64 grains of imr4831 with cci primers at 100 yards it shoots around 3/8 of an inh for 5 shoots if im having a good day
with the accubonds ive tried imr 4350 for 55 to 59 grains with 58 grains shooting the best about inch and a half at 100 yards imr 4831 60 to 64 grains which did poor and i just tried aa3100 with 64 grains which was just as bad

I'm having a little trouble reconciling your two statements. I certainly wouldn't say that 1.5 moa is 'no group at all'!

The best loads for my .257s are with IMR7828 and Reloder 22. They are both slow powders and they might do better for you.

A couple thoughts:

* Have you cleaned your bore thoroughly? The new bullets could be causing a fouling that your barrel doesn't like. My .257s shoot best for the first 12 shots with several bullet/powder combos, then groups tend to open up until I clean the bore.

* I assume that you are letting the barrel cool down between groups. Depending on the rifle, a hot barrel usually does not shoot as well as a cooler one.
