Started with a 700 Long Action.
Action squared and a PTG recoil lug installed.
Benchmark 1/8.5 #7 MTU contour finished at 26 inches.
Factory trigger ( for now )
Stock is a Boyd's tactical laminate, opened up to accept barrel.
20 MOA EGW base.
Burris low tactical rings.
Sightron SIII 6x24x50 Mil-Dot.

Still have to lap the rings and bed it.
Then it's off to fire form brass.

That is moving right along, Howard. It is very promising. What do you plan on loading?

Fireforming will be done with 120 BTs.
After that I've got 140 SMKs, 140 Nosler CCs, some 130 and 140 Bergers, a box of 142SMKs, some 140 AMaxes and of course 130 and 140 Accubonds and BTs.

Have IMR4350, Varget, RL22, H 4831SC and H1000 in the powder locker.

I built it to be a LR target gun but somehow I have a sneaking feeling it will end up in a deer stand with me come November....

Oh and it's ALL Creedmore's fault.

Very nice!! Looking forward to the range report & photos if possible :)!

Blessings,
Dan

Should be a tack driver :) Did you go with a long action to have more flexibility in cartridge length or you just happened to have a long action?

I figured since it was going to be used to launch the long, heavy 6.5 bullets a long action was appropriate.
Had the smith throat it long as well.

Duck, I was sooooo close to pulling the trigger (pun intended) on a 260 AI build this winter. I went the 6.5 SAUM route instead, but that 260 AI is a sweet round. That sounds like one heck of a sweet build. Can't wait to see some targets.

What's your thoughts on the Sightron? I have my heart set on the SIII FFP 6-24x50. Have yet to read a poor review, and they sound like a heck of a bargain.

Very nice Howard! I bet that rifle is going to make you smile. Brian's buddy has a 260AI on a Model 70 Classic. The rifle is just cool. Accurate beyond words too.

Thanks Jake,

As for the Sightrons.
I bought one a couple of years ago from this Greek fella we know round here as Fotis.
An SII 6x24x40 and mounted it on my 264.
Glass is pretty good, tracks like a dream and it's never shifted zero one bit.
The glass in this SIII absolutely will blow you away.
Compared it at dusk the other evening with my Zeiss Conquest and a ZA5 Minox.
It's crisp and clear.
For the money I don't see how you could go wrong.
