OK, I finally started a build. I have had the CM 31" 264 Pac-Nor(0.002"tighter than 264 win SAAMI specs) barrel with 1-8.5" poly rifling installed, and have inletted that nasty tuperware stock and torqued in the action, Leupold M8 Fixed 20X mounted and bore sighted on plain weaver bases and steel rings. I yet to finish the barrel, I want to Dura Coat the entire rig in an Artic Camo for yote hunting.

200 rounds of Nosler Custom 264 win brass and there already was 300-140 grn Sierra MatchKings and 400-130 grn Accubonds on my bench. So I loaded up one round with a Matchking and tried to chamber it to find where the lands were marking the bullet, Dang!!! Tried an AccuBond same thing..... :?

The new unfired brass chambers no problem while the loaded round will load until the neck hits the chamber neck and it's too tight to chamber it. The difference between cases with bullet to without is .291-.293, I need to remove 0.001-0.002 of the outside neck diameter before I can use this thing. I thought I'd get away with the tight chamber and not have to neck turn, I was wrong. On the bright side, with a neck that tight I can be a bit more agressive with my loads

I've never turned case necks. I was looking at the sinclair NT-3000 neck turning kit with indicator to get it done. So if anybody wants to help me out and give me detailed directions on how to turn necks, I would greatly apprecate it!!

PS. I'll post pictures when I get a chance!!

I'll still have to work up I guess, just the tight neck should be alot more effeicent with the powder used.

If you cast the chamber you'll know exactly how much you need to turn. But you can just take off a little at a time and get there. It kind of depends how picky you want to be. Then too, bullets can vary in diameter slightly. I have found some to .0006-7" bewteen smallest to largest. So when I do have a (couple barrels) need to be turned for, I use the largest bullet dia. and turn .0005" under the chamber spec.
You need some room for the brass to expand and release the bullet. If they are tight going in the chamber and brass isn't even, you can get pressure spikes. That don't help accuracy much.. I don't know that anything can be totally perfect, unless you start sorting bullets, but close counts sometimes.

I have the 130 grn Accubonds that measure .263" on average and the SMk 140's that are pretty much .264" all the time. I want to use the 140 SMK, possibly Nosler CC or try the 156 grn Wildcat bullets in this rifle to utilize the range potential as best I can. I have some time to get ready, with two weddings in my immediate family within the next month I will not have time or funds to play :( with this project, so it may get tested first on coyotes in Jan., not WT deer this fall. It doesn't really matter, just more comfortable breaking in a new barrel in +65-70 F ar opposed to +20 F.

I'll contact Pac-Nor and get a neck diamension on the reamer they used. It had only been used on 2 barrels when they did mine, so it should be very close to the blueprint specs.

Yes, or it's under sized slightly and they hone out to your request. Really when you start dealing with custom neck chambers and turning, you might want to get yourself a micrometer capable of reading .0001"+or-
calipers thet read .001" just fall short sometimes of what's needed for accurate measuring.
just a suggestion.

I've tunred a few necks, it shoots 0.4 c-c @ 100m during break in. I haven't had an actual session with it yet as my wife and I are moving and everything is packed.

LOL, that is what I've been using. I had intially bought the wrong mandrel for the 6.5mm, one for the case trimmer without the shoulder on it. SO, I wrecked a few cases until I got the right one that has the depth control and it works great. The handle is hard on the thumb, but other than that it works well. I have been really surprised at how uneven the factory case necks have been from both Federal and Winchester from 0.001"-0.002". THe Nosler Custom 264 Win Mag brass has been the best I've turned to date with only about every 5th or 10th case having an uneven neck thickness. Almost a shame to mess with it. I would leave it alone if the chamber was standard. I'll let you know if how it shoots after I get it broke in and dialed in properly.
