Following the threads about the velocity factors of the 270 WSM I now know the issue. I am trying to work up a load that will be only 200 fps or so below Nosler's published stats. I guess every gun has it's load and every shooter has their expectations of the perfect combination.
That being said and my being the single biggest proponent of the AccuBond living, I really have some questions about the validity of the published velocities/loads in the Nosler reloading manual.
I understand underloading for litigation avoidence but the velocities are so out of reach high that I'm concerned that somebody is going to load up to them and get hurt. At 2 grs. beyond maximum load I'm still 300 fps below their published velocities in the same length barrel. On the other hand I'm spot on with other reloading manuals for the loads in question.
Nosler make the best bullets in the world. Why exagerate? Credibility counts!!
Just my opinion.

Interesting post, Greg. I am near Nosler published velocities on many cartridges if I adjust for barrel length. Occasionally, I find a rifle that simply has a "slow" barrel; and recently I worked on a rifle that I finally resorted to saying that it had a "fast" barrel. However, accepting the normal potential for variation in burn rates and the differing barrel lengths, I'm usually comfortable with Nosler's published data.

I confess that I did question one manufacturer on their published data. I asked if they were certain they had pressure tested their data. It earned a rather terse reply, indicating genuine irritation that I would question their data. However, I have not had that question with Nosler.

I like the Nosler manual but it does seem they have appropriate velocity but not enough charge weight to equal what other manuals are getting with some calibers, such as the 7mm Rem Mag and the 270WSM. Others are pretty spot on like the 243 and 338WM. Could be just me. Scotty

I agree. I have found fast and slow barrels. Normally I've found that about 2 more grains of powder above Nosler's max load gets me max. velocities. The 458 Lott required 2.5 grains less than max to achieve safe loads. The 270 WSM seems to be the exception. No other manual comes within 200 fps of what Nosler claims. I would love to know what I might be doing wrong. I'll keep loading up and with different powders untill I see pressure and then back down a safe amount. I knew I should have modified a 7MM RUM for a 270 RUM Wildcat. What was I thinking    If it ain't a RUM it ain't enough

On the 270 WSM, I'm kissing the velocities Nosler publishes with the powders they used. Now, a 270 RUM, that'd be a barrel-burner!
