I currently use Nosler 180 grain Nosler Partitions in 300 RUM for PA whitetail deer and black bear and happy with the results but was wondering what you guys would use this setup or something else? Also the 300 RUM is my onle rifle

Nothing wrong with the 180 grain PT in your rifle. It certainly works well for the game you are hunting and gives you the capability of hunting elk or other game should you ever travel out west and to Alaska. You could go with a 200 grain bullet, but if the 180 is working well and you are happy, I see no reason to change.

Exactly what DrMike stated....

That Partition will take any animal in N/A out of the RUM.
The other two popular choices would be the 180 & 200gr Accubonds w/ probably the 200 being most popular.

Mine likes the 180's a lot better though....

At what distances do you plan to shoot? A 165 grain bullet is all a small PA whitetail would ever need, if not shooting extreme long range. I have my 300 RUM loaded with 200 grain Accubonds, but I personally would not use the rifle for eastern hunting unless I was perched on a powerline where I could get some reasonably long shooting in.

If you're only going to have one rifle, that .300 RUM is a real lulu!

I can't think of anything in North America that it wouldn't handle... Might move up to the 200's for really big bear or bison or something... Had a .300 RUM for a while, was shocked when I ran some factory loaded 200 gr Nosler Partitions across the chronograph at 3200 fps!!! That's a lot of power...

For what you are hunting either the 180 gr PT or AB is about perfect. The lighter weight bullets will work but the higher impact velocity is going to tear up more meat. I would stay with the 180 gr bullets.
