300 WSM - RL17 - 165 PT

This is from Alliant site

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/ ... rtridge=83

They recommend starting 10% below max load listed that be about 61grs. I started @ 63gr went up 1/2gr I'm at 65gr today next time I'll go up alittle more so far it's shooting pretty good. If weather holds out I'm hoping to chronograh some of those loads next week I'm using a Hornady 165gr BTSP.

My deer/ellk load is with 168gr TSX and H-4350 and I plan on testing some of those with R-17 also 168gr E-Tip.

I like to give you more information but I'm about 1/2 way getting my loads. Well good luck

Have been using H4350 with good results. Was hoping that Forum members have used RL17 and 165gr in 300WSM. Can work up my own, but some times others' experience is a better teacher. The Alliant site gives "suggestions" on optimum loads, but not necessarily what works best.

...................Anyone with RL17 experience can offer loading suggestions. But your rifle is its own seperate piece of equipment, and what works well in my 300 WSM and for a few others in their 300 WSMs, may not work quite as well for you. So it is essential that you work up your own RL17 loadings.

Here`s a new RL17 loading I worked up to in my own 300 WSM and chronyd the other day. Not a 165 grainer but close enough.

168 gr Berger (hunting) VLD
68.0 gr RL17
COAL- 2.870"
3051 fps average (16.5" barreled Ruger Frontier carbine) No pressure signs!..............Shorty be a cookin!!!

3 shot groups averaged from .537" to .765" (outside hole dimensions). More than an excellent hunting load for hogs, up to and including elk.

Running about 5% behind the longer 24" 300 WSM barrels. 3217 fps is listed for the 165 grainer on Alliant`s site.

Not all!!! Didn't mean to make it sound like I was being unappreciative of your input. Was hoping to find what other forum members have found when using RL17
