Got some 180gr AB, and looking for some suggestions as a starting load. My rifle is a M70 with a 26" barrel. I have the following powders on hand.

RL22, RL25, 7828SSC, H4831

I normally load my hunting rounds to the recommended COL and never try and seat out to touch the rifling. I also have some Lee collet dies. Should I use them for hunting rounds? Or best the FL size?

Nosler #6 shows IMR 7828 as the most accurate powder tested.
That's where I would start.
Min listed at 80.5 2998 fps.
Max listed at 84.5 and 3185 fps.

+1 on IMR 7828.

84.5 is my max also using 180 grain Barnes TTSX. Velocity is the same as listed in Nosler Manual. This from my Weatherby Accumark.

IMR7828 is listed as the most accurate powder tested by Nosler so tat would be a good starting point.
IMR7828
Start 80.5 grs
Mid 82.5 grs
MAX 84.5 grs

Loading to just under the magazine length would be a good place to start with your COL.
Neck sizing is fine for hunting, but I would recommend that you cycle each shell through the chamber to ensure they will feed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will put together some 7828 loads and start testing. I used to own a Lazermark years ago and it seemed to like RL22 but I was shooting Hornady 180gr SP. I was getting 3233fps with 85grs.

Here is a picture of my M70 (it has a nice McMillan stock)

Great looking rifle. I also had great luck with 7828. 84-86 gr pending on rifle.

Ohhh, it a Laredo.....I kind of like that.

I think it's a custom Model 70. Laredo didn't come with fluted barrel and 300 Weatherby chambering. Unless, I'm missing something.

Here's my Laredo chambered for 300 Winchester Magnum.

You are correct. It's a custom job. I do have a Laredo in 7mm STW though ;)

If 7828 doesn't do the trick try 87 gr RL-25, mine really likes this load with 180 AB's and my son's Mark V likes 85 gr RL-25 with 200 gr. These are listed as max loads so work them up from below! By the way they both shoot sub 3/4 inch groups. For some reason the 7828 SSC that Ibought just kicks the crap out of me in both guns, maybe it's a little faster than most, but I got an 8 pound jug. My old 300 Mark V likes 80 gr of RL-22 with the 180 at 3170 fps.

Great suggestions here fellas. All of the aforementioned powders work.

Boomer,

Nice rig for sure, whats the specs on the barrel? (Make, contour)

And details on the fancy stick below the Win 70.

Great M70, looks like a deadly rifle. I don't load for the 300WBY, but R22 works really well in my 300 Win Mag. Good luck, Scotty

To be quite honest, I don't know if it is factory original barrel that was fluted or a custom. The rifle still hasn't arrived yet from the previous owner, so will check it when arrives.

The rifle below is a Fabarms O/U in 9.3 x 74r. Not mine unfortunately, but you never know ;)

300 WBY Model 70 Win 24" Barrel.
77 grs. IMR 4350. CCI 250 primers. RP nickel or brass cases. OAL.= 3.56" case length = 2.815". 180 gr. Accubonds or partitions. 3143 Fps. 4000 fpe. Extreemly accurate in all rifles tested. You may work up in velocity but I never did due to the need for accuracy for long range steel competition. I have used RL 22 also with good luck but not quite as accurate.
It's a good start. Good luck.

I use the IMR7828 load for 180gr bullets out of nosler reloading manual with my 300 WBY - most accurate powder/load listed for 180 - i use hornady interbonds with good results. i've been thinking of trying nosler accubonds instead - i don't know if I'd gain anything in switching - just heard they stay together better - but i have put some animals DOWNwith these bullets so who knows. i prefer partitions but couldn't get them to group as well with the 300. it also seems to group better when i seated them deeper - not factory length short, but deeper than i started at.

There is nothing wrong with the Interbonds, and if you rifle shoots them well, then be grateful. The ABs are an excellent bullet that deliver consistent results. Should you ever have reason to question the IBs, then by all means, try AccuBonds.

Welcome to the forum.

The difference between the Interbond and the AccuBond is that the Interbond expands to a larger frontal area than the AccuBond. This limits penetration. The AB will penetrate deeper.
