MY uncle , is graciously giving me his 308 Norma mag. Will be rolling rounds for any future big game hunts over seas. I would be very thankful for any pet loads that could be tossed my way, save powder, and money. Thnx Gord

I've had some success with the .308 Norma, having worked up loads for a gentleman who delivered one for load development. 78.5 grains of RL25 with 168 grain TSX gave good velocity and accuracy in this Shultz and Larsen rifle. Other loads that worked very well were 80.0 grains of Magnum and 168 grain TSX and 72.5 grains of H4831 and 168 grain TSX. I would think that adapting these for an AB or a PT would yield some fine groups.

THANKYOU Mike, I appreciate any loads from you, I respected your wisdom and common sense to loading. Again thnx. Gordon

................Whatever loads are reco`d to you, may or may not work well in your rifle. Regardless, you`ll still need to experiment with componentry in powders and bullets.

Go to hodgdon.com and you`ll find alot of loading recipes for the 308 Norma.

Back when I had one I found IMR 4350 worked well with 180 gr Speer Mag Tips and Norma MRP with 200 gr Speer G.S. and 220 gr Partition bullets. Looking back my 180 gr and 200 gr loads were a bit too warm even though they came from Speer's book so beware of some older data. I shot one bear facing with the 220 gr Partitions using 67.5 gr MRP going right around 2700 fps it looked like I dropped a truck on him he went down so hard. It sure made an impression on me, that 220 gr load is a hammer  If I still had the gun I would make a load with the 200 gr AccuBond and keep the speed around 2850 fps using H 4350. My notes say I used 68 gr of that powder with the Grand Slams, Hodgdon says 67 is max with the Partitions. I also used 70 gr of H 4350 with the 180 Mag Tips for 2960 fps, again I would sustitute an AccuBond or Scirocco and be happy, again this was 1 gr over Hodgdons max. Hope this helps.

Gerry thnx, info well received, glad to have. Most reload manuals don't list loads for this gun anymore, besides always miss a few combos to boot.I will be most likely loading the 225 grn AB. 8)

The Norma is essentially the ballistic equal to the 300 win mag. My favorite and most accurate load for my win mag with the 180 grain bullet is 4350. One or two grains above max depending upon the manual. I have shot some .200 or so groups with this load, using Winchester brass and CCI primers. I use the 180 PT for everything I hunt.
