I have to stop by the sport shop so I am going to get some powder for the .338 win mag. I have 200-215-225 grain bullets to test. What should I start with?

My number 1 go to powder for the 338 is RL19 hands down. Tried H4831SC and IMR4350 and RL19 beat them both in accuracy and speed. I think if you give it a try, you will like it. From 180-250's it has performed really well in my rifle. Scotty

I too am using RL-19 with the 225AB.

Here's my load:
225AB
73gn of RL-19
GM215M
Brass - Win trimmed to 2.49
COL - 3.36"
Avg velocity - 2784 FPS

I would give H4350 or IMR 4350 a look also. I used both for 35 years in a .338 Win Mag and I still use IMR 4350 for light bullets in the .340 Bee.

I have been playing with .338 Win Mags for some years now. My go to powder is H 4350. I have shot RL 19 some, and it works well, but for some reason it shoots better with a standard primer, not a magnum primer.

The .338 Win Mag is so flexible that it generally shoots well with IMR 4350 , H 4350, RL 19, H 4831, etc, etc.

For heavy bullets IMR or H 4350 or RL 19 do best. For light bullets (200 grains) IM 4831 has been the standout powder.

RF, let me throw out another option. Have been using RL22 exclusively in my 338 Win Mag for several years (several = 10+). Good speed and accuracy. I have no reason to change. I use RL19, H4350 and H4831 in other calibers, all good powders. Give RL22 a try.
