I have a shot at an AMAZING deal on a custom rifle package. Never played with a RUM before.

Please share any loads you might have that will reveal the capabilities of this cartridge.

200 210 225 and 250 grain.

F215/Nosler Brass/97.5 grains Magnum/225 grain TTSX

F215/Nosler Brass/93.0 grains Retumbo/225 grain TTSX

F215/Nosler Brass/96.5 grains N570/225 grain TTSX

CCI250/Nosler Brass/85.0 grains IMR 7828/265 grain LRX

CCI250/Nosler Brass/83.0 grains IMR 4831/265 grain LRX

All produced sub-MOA accuracy and good velocities.

Interested in the velocities mostly

Man, Jim smokes a 250 PT or AB out at almost 3000, I think he was upper 3200's with the 210 PT. It's danged powerful, that's for sure.

F215/Nosler Brass/97.5 grains Magnum/225 grain TTSX--~3010 fps

F215/Nosler Brass/93.0 grains Retumbo/225 grain TTSX--2975 fps

F215/Nosler Brass/96.5 grains N570/225 grain TTSX--2973 fps

CCI250/Nosler Brass/85.0 grains IMR 7828/265 grain LRX--2833 fps

CCI250/Nosler Brass/83.0 grains IMR 4831/265 grain LRX--2818 fps

It wouldn't happen to be a Left handed Wemington would it?

Negetron! it is a Right handed 700 action
26" Hart SS fluted barrel
Removable muzzle brake with thread protector
McMillan fiberglass stock
Talley bases and rings.
Shilen trigger
Weaver Super Slam 2x10x42mm with EXB recticle.
Dies and brass.

Shoots tiny little bug holes
WHAT WOULD YOU PAY for the above package???????????/

I figure (and may be wrong) that 1500 is close what one would pay to build this rifle without the action and Mickey stock scope etc.

Your probably right Fotis. It is a nice sounding rifle. Whats the weight on that rifle all up?

I am getting 3200 fps and sub .5 MOA with the 210 gr PT and 92.0 grs of RL 22.
98.6 grs Retumbo pushes the 250 gr AB at 2985 fps and the 250 gr PT at 3024 fps.

I'll post all my 338 RUM loads shortly.

I too have a weakness for the .338Rum. How far does the .340Wea from .338Rum using max loads?. I know the Rum has the edge in casevolume but does it move anything significantly?. Over here we can get cheap .338Lapua ammo by Ruak , Swiss for about US$1,20 a shot, so I may just one day put a rifle together in that round. It is just soo boring in .338Lapua since it is becoming so commen.

It's hard to tell with all rifles being different but the RUM does offer more case capacity. I think most WBY list 2900 or so with most 250's. Whereas Jim gets right on 3000. Not a huge difference, but if your looking for every little bit of speed, the RUM should top it with everything else being equal.

When I was working with the .300 RUM a few years back, I was left with the distinct impression that the big RUM case was likely best as a .338, .358, or .375 bore. It has IMPRESSIVE case capacity and velocity potential in any version.

Don't ignore the .338 Edge, a slightly different "wildcat" on the necked up .300 RUM, with a little more capacity than the .338 RUM.

JD338, thanks for posting those figures again, for velocity & accuracy. It's hard to imagine a better all-around big game cartridge for the biggest game in North America, and likely most game around the world.

Regards, Guy

I've had good luck with 84 grains of IMR4350 and a 225 grain Partition. Just a hair under 3000FPS and 1 1/2 inch accuracy at 200 yards. 89 Grains of RL22 pushes the same bullet over 3000 without a problem and accuracy is excellent.

Thanks Jim.

What is the normal twist for the 338 rum?
