Fellas,

I did some shooting today. I was shooting my 338 RUM with 225 Hornady SST's. I got a best load average of 3213 fps using 92gr of RL-22,R-P 9.5 mag primers,R-P brass. As soon as i figure out how i will post the pic . But my best 3 shot group was about .60" and had i not shot one more last shot it would look really good, but the last shot opened it up to about a inch. It was kinda interesting because i was shooting with the circles in my Nikon BDC scope.

Interesting! Looks like the load has good potential. I have a 338RUM being built right now. Hopefully have it done late July/Early August. I can hardly wait...

The 338 RUM can be a shooter. RL22 and RL25 both have yeilded excellent accuracy and good velocity in all bullet weights.
I was shooting my 338 RUM yesterday, using Retumbo and a 250 gr PT, broke 3000 fps.

3000 fps with a 250gr PT

I am working with Retumbo,, velocity is higher than I expected. At 1 grain under Hodgdon's published max, I got a reading of 3047 fps.
I've loaded up shells tonight for accuracy testing.

I am also working with my nephews M700 XCR 338 RUM. My goal is to find an accurate load, sub MOA at 3000 fps for both rifles and I will post my results.

I should note that the load i mentioned above is over max in hornady book and at around 90 degree outside temp. I do believe that almost all 700 actions in good condition and at 90 degrees or less can handle this load. There were no signs of excessive pressure what so ever . I did notice the velocity was rising step for step with the temp. I don't know how sensitive RL-22 is to temp but over the last few weeks and high temps i have noticed those velocities going up pretty good. This load would probably be really nice in November, but we may never know because the 250gr AccuBond will replace it by then

Does anyone know if Nosler adjusts their B.C's to STD conditions or velocity
like Barnes or Sierra ?

I have heard that RL-22 can be temp sensitive. Does anybody know this to be true? If so, how about RL-25?

I did have one lot of RL 22 that seamed to run hotter than normal. I have not had any issues with RL25 in the 338 RUM with either the 225 gr AB or 250 gr PT.

Sure is a good BC with the 338 bullets and at those velocities it is more than a hammer, it should reach out and touch-em

retumbo is the ticket for the 338 RUM

Thebear_78,

What Retumbo loads are you shooting in your 338 RUM? What velocity and accuracy level are you getting.
Thanks for your insight.

With the loads you have going the 338 RUM is gonna be the hammer of Thor.
