I finally popped my 338RUM's cherry. I shot a hog tonight. He was about 125yds quartering away. Sad part of this story is that I wasn't using a Nosler bullet. Anway, the laoad was 87gns of RL-22 pushing a Barnes 225TSX. I will get pictures and hog weight tomorrow. I barely felt any recoil. The 338RUM is an XCR, with a Rifle Basics trigger set at 2.5.

Now I can set it aside to concentrate on getting the 225 ,250AB load worked up for it, maybe even the new 200gn ETips I got this week.

Congratulations!

You're shooting a .338 at wild boar while I'm shooting a .22 at rock chucks... Life just isn't fair!!!

Hey Guy,

If it makes you feel any better, I am gonna bring my muzzleloader along PD'n this yr. Hows that for fair? Figure if I dont hit em, I'd probably collapse the tunnels..

Besides, one just never knows when one them ferocious pdoggies might charge..

Set the emergency brakes guys. The friend that was with me took the pics, I'm just waiting for him to send them to me. Oh, the boar weighed 104lbs dressed.

Greg, the shot went clean through, of course.

It's nap time. I got home last night around 9:30 after loading up the hog, and had to be at work at 2:00 AM and got off about 11:30AM, had to check in the hog (VAFB requirement), skin it, rinse it off and then put it in the walk-in cooler. Of course then I had to go put most of my pay check in the gas tank after that. I got home at 2:00PM, I'm totally beat.

Nice looking rifle too.

We were in a recently cut oat field the Lompoc Federal Penitentiary plants for feeding their live stock. Spotted the hogs on the east side, they were working west along the edge of the field. We saw that this was a boar. The other guy didn't want to take him, so I did. I was kneeling using a monopod rest. The furrows were to high to sit. We guestimated the distance was about 125yds. He was quartering away from me. I lined up the crosshairs just in front of his right shoulder and squeezed the trigger. The "Super Canon" belowed and I faintly remember hearing the bullet hit. The recoil was minimal. The bullet exited about mid-jaw. We were a little concerned I had made a bad shot as we saw some of the other hogs running off and thought one of them looked wounded. Anyway, we walked toward were I shot the hog and behold, it was a bang-flop shot. This was the third night in a row we were on hogs in this field. We were out Wednesday night and another friend of mine shot a 100lb boar. THe guy that was with me was stalking on some bigger boars Thursday night, but never was able to get enough time to get a good clean shot at one of them. I will have to say, that I was a little nervous about shooting this large caliber, it kicked like a mother at the bench, I even got lightly scoped a few times, but as always, in a hunting situation, hardly felt the recoil.

Fine looking piggy. Thanks for sharing, Rich. Enjoyed hearing the account of the kill.
