It’s me, yet again.
I was wondering if you could give me QL loads for the .35 Whelen, first set at 60k psi, 24 inch barrel, 1 in 14 inch twist?
With bullet weights running 200 to 250 grs, please?

Second set, can you run the pressures at 64k psi?

The old cartridge gets some new life into it when properly loaded.

I see that the 60k psi loads do quite well, and not much gain in the 64k psi.

The 60k psi will sure put a wallop on anything on this continent, and others.

I'm using RL15 with the 250 gr PT and getting 2580 fps from a 22" 1:16 twist and sub MOA out to 250 yards. This is a potent load for anything in NA.

I'm using Re15, 60.4 gr. with the 225 gr. Barnes TSX bullet for 2710 FPS. Funny thing, I didn't see Re15 on any of those Quickload runs. CAUTION: that load is safe in my custom Mauser but too hot for my Remington M700. Can't say how it would run in my Ruger M77 as it has a way to large chamber. I use it strictly for cast bullet use with a 290 gr. bullet where I can seat the bullet into the lands.

I have been using PP2000 with 220's and 8208 with the 200 TTSXs. Those are pretty danged accurate for me as well.

Jim's load is a classic too. Hard to beat a 250 Partition at those speeds.

I have a good buddy who had his single shot rebored to 35 Whelen in order to use in LA's primitive season. It has a 28" barrel and oh my darn does he get some amazing speeds from that thing using PP Varmint and CFE223.
 
Howdy ya'll! I'm new to the forum, new to the 35 Whelen.. I'm currently awaiting a shipping notification (any day now, 22wks) from X-Caliber for a 31" 1:12" Fluted Heavy Varmint Barrel for a Savage Whelen build! I already have 3 different die sets, 30lbs of RL17, and cases of primers. Lots of bullets as well :) from Speer 2453's. Nosler 50712's, Cutting Edge 275gr Maximus, and heck even 1,250 - Nosler 59756 250gr AccuBond (9.3mm/.366).. I've only sized down 100 so far, got them on a smoking deal.. I'm thinking the .494 BC should be upped to something like .505 since they grew IIRC .018" in length and got narrower :) I simply can't wait to see what this cartridge, caliber, and bullets are all capable of out of a 31" tube!

I Love CFE223/PP 2000-MR/MP502 (Pretty much identical in my testing) in my 30-06 loads, I thought about it for the Whelen.. But just so happened to have lucked up on the RL17. QL is showing that it could potentially hit 2,850fps with the 59756 (9.3 250 AB) @ around 64k.. I'm using conveted .270WIN Brass 2.494" 70.5gr H20 capacity.. 63.1gr of RL17.

All of this is purely speculation at this point, I will of course have to make sure the throat can handle the bullet seated out to 3.419", the rifle build is on a MDT ORYX Chassis with Accuracy International 300WM 5rd (Actually 6rd of 35W) that allows for seating all the way out to 3.647"!!!
AND of course SAFELY WORKING UP, STOPPING and STEPPING BACK DOWN @ FIRST SIGNS of OVER PRESSURE. No point to blow my face or my new rifle up ;)

Here is what QuickTarget + Hornady Spits out if it is possible to safely reach 2,850, and the sized down 59756 really does get a bump in BC.. MPBR est. 299yds

If you can't tell by now, I'm rather excited about this.. It's my first bolt gun build, and it's always fun to bring a new caliber/cartridge into the reloading fold. If you think these numbers look insane.. The Cutting Edge 275gr Maximus looks even more nuts :) My best estimates put it at a .631, the Berger 195 EOL is a .755.

Some might say WHY? Well, I've recently come to the realization/appreciation of this "most underrated cartridge". I consider it a True American Legend. I'm looking to prove to others as well as myself, that it's still VERY relevant and VERY capable (especially with modern powders, bullets, and equipment. Tomorrow (12/23) marks the 60th anniversary of Colonial Whelen's passing. He may be dead, but damn sure won't be forgotten! Long Live the 35.
