My friend Frank and I finally got a chance to try some of my handload on Bullets 375 Weatherby. As some of you might remember, Bullet traded this rifle with my friend's 257. Frank wanted me to load the 235 grain Barnes TSX FB. I thought it's a little light for this cartridge but he insisted, so I went ahead and load 40 rounds using two different powder. The weather here in Southern Cal was kind of ugly today, with rain and wind wrecking havoc on our paper target so I wasn't able to take picture of the group. I did however took picture of the bullet impact at 100 yards. Heres' the picture.

In any case, the rifle shoot's really well with the group averaging 1" 3 shot @ 100 yards. Usually two will be on top of the other with a flyer opening up the group. The rifle tends to string the shot vertically. I attributed this to the barrel heating up since Frank didn't bother to wait til it cools down. Overall, the rifle shoots very consistent and plenty accurate for the intended use. I manage to hit a bowling pen at 135 yards offhand which I thought to be extra-ordinary, considering that I'm a lousy off hand shooter. :) 77 grain of Reloader 15 will propel the 235 at 2909 fps average and 77 grain of IMR 4350 at 2741 average. Reloader 15 is very promising although I won't gave up on the 4350 yet. I should be able to push this bullet to around 3K.

Our safari will be two months away! We have plenty of time to get this rifle ready. Frank will be hunting with his Custom 300 Weatherby. I'm still mulling between my 338 Howa or my 280 Remington. One thing for sure though, we are going to have the 375 for back-up.

Just think what that combo would do to a pair of lungs.

Good news to hear and I am glad things are working out. That 375Wby will knock down what ever it hits. Good luck on the Safari and I will be with you in thought and in my memories of days gone by in Africa. God bless and be careful enjoying the adventure.
