The UPS man dropped off some 300 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tip factory seconds yesterday afternoon.
I loaded a few today and got to the bench with the Thompson Contender 16" pistol to see if they would hit the paper at 100.

The first two were high but showed grouping promise. The third one put that to rest but still good enough for a short range deer round.

Deer beware. Agreed that it is good enough for a short-range deer round.

The .458 300 gr BST is one heck of a great bullet.
Between my daughter and myself, we have taken a dozen plus
deer with this bullet. I recovered one after penetrating 24-26" of deer.
An game performance and knock down power has been impressive.
What speed are you getting from your T/C Contender?

I haven't had a chance to run these across the chronograph.

That would be my guess too. Much more than that would turn the Contender into a wicked beast.

Jd..... what kind of wound channels are you getting with those ballistic tips? I shot 3 or 4 whitetail deer in Wisconsin with the good old Remington 300 Grainers. The deer always seem to just pretty much run off like not much happened. Wound Channel seem to be about thumb size with no bloodshot meat. In short there doesn't seem to be much hydrostatic shock and it takes far too long for my liking for the deer to pass away. I quit using my 45-70 because my 308 seems a whole lot more humane.
Seems like I've heard the front of that ballistic tip is pretty fragile what can you tell me? Maybe this is what I'm looking for!

The couple 300 BTs over seen recovered were WIDE! They also put deer down fast. Jim's seem to look the same as well. I think a couple recovered Bullets are in our Bullet test section.
