Any plans for a 6mm AccuBond in the works?

I would like to see a high BC AccuBond in the 6mm for a 1 in 10 twist. I want a 6mm bullet that performs like the AccuBond, opening quickly for shock on coyote size game but not overexpanding and destroying bobcats like others I've tried.

I signed up on LRhunting to test the new 87gr Berger VLD in 6mm they are developing, it is supposed to have a G1 BC of .421. I've had trouble with long range expansion with the 95gr Berger on coyotes at a MV of 2950fps. The bergers being designed to penetrate before opening is less desirable on coyote size animals in my experience. The Swift scirocco 90gr won't shoot accurately in my rifle like the 90gr ballistic tip will but the BC is considerably higher. I've not yet tried the 90gr E-tip, but might have to.

Same here buddy. Everyone is asking for a 6mm AccuBond. I think there is a great calling for them. I wouldn't be too surprised at Nosler coming out with them shortly. There has been alot of bantering going on for them. Scotty

I am certain that there will be a 6mm AB offering. A 95-100 gr offering would be a big success!

Hey Pop, aren't you concerned about the orange army?

You lost me, can you explain what orange army has to do with 6mm AB's?

The 87 VMax has a BC of .400... not giving up too much to the Berger... and I KNOW those things open up on coyotes for a loooong ways. Not too many bullets out there in the 6mm that are better designed for long range coyote work.

You are right, I shot the 75gr V max for a long time and it worked perfect on coyotes, but when calling I occasionally get a cat to come in. The 6mm V max bullets will absolutely wreck a bobcat pelt, I nearly cut the first one in half at 80yds and wrecked another at just under 300yds. I want a bullet like the AccuBond that opens fast, but doesn't explode for my 6mm for when the cats come in.

Good luck looking for that magic bullet that knows what it's hitting and can adjust to perform accordingly. I know the 110 AccuBond out of the .25-06 blows big holes in coyotes... and the couple of smaller critters I've shot with them got pretty well dissasembled too. I haven't found a bullet yet that will "open up quickly" and not blow big holes in 20-50 pound critters... and I can't imagine that a 90ish grain AccuBond will satisfy your requirements... but, when you find a bullet that does... let us know.

By the way... I've run 55, 70, 80, 90, and 95 NBTs... 58, 65, 75 and 87 VMaxs... 55, 70, and 85 Sierras... 80, 88, 95, and 105 Bergers... and the 85 Speer BTs... out of the 6mm Rem. I've killed multiple coyotes with all of those bullets... and I've yet to find one that will anchor critters, not blow big holes, defy wind, and drop slower than a mormon prom dress. For the most part they all do something well... and leave something else to be desired... such is the case with ALL bullets. Sacrifices must be made.

I guess if I was looking for a caliber/bullet combo that wouldn't do too much damage to bobcats, hammer coyotes (without busting up hides too bad), show minimal wind drift, and still shoot pretty flat... I'd look at the .223AI or even a .22-250 with a 1:8" twist pipe running 75 AMax pills in the 3100-3300 ball park.

I'd be happy to try an 85 AccuBond out. Until then, my 1:10 twist A-bolt will continue to shoot the 85 gameking or 85 tsx as the 85 grainers shoot best in my rifle.

Sorry dude you lost me too. :?

On another note, I would like a 95 gr AccuBond for my new KOOL BLUE 6mm!

My long term memory is very good.... you are a magnum nut, right? Yuo posted a pic of a antelope you got awhile back, and it had a exit hole the size of a basketball. I was a little distured about the 338 you used on it. You said that you would n't have to worry about a orange army stealing your quarry. Does this ring a bell?

OH OK. I remember!
You were disturbed when I reported my terminal ballistic findings, due to the graphic nature of the post content. Were you Longranger then? Just wondering. My memory is not what it use to be.

BTW it was a 416 Weatherby Magnum that I shot the antelope with. Exit wound was the size of a baseball, just to be more pragmatic.
I never used a 338 on any game thus far.

Longranger.... mighta been.

My point to all this is a 6mm is a better chioce for antelope.

Yes but I get bored too easily... Everyone here knows this.
Next year maybe I will use the 378 Bee who knows.

Ah..... now I understand... Well, Popadopulous, now I understand. My funds are limited to what I have. Heck I'm kinda glad, coz I wouldn't be able to keep track of all this junk!!! Shoot, I have a hard time as it is.

I've seen similar results from a friends 257 weatherby shooting 110 accubonds at 3450, but had good results from the 140-160gr accubonds in 6.5-7mm at 3000fps not leaving huge exit wounds on coyotes. I've tried many 6mm bullets and the 90gr ballistic tip has performed as close to perfect as anything I've tried. I just would like to see a little higher BC. The 270 140gr AccuBond has more copper in the jacket, making it longer and therefore increasing the BC over the same weight ballistic tip. I was hoping they could do something similar with the 6mm. I know there will be no perfect bullet, but I enjoy the search. The accubonds I've used in other calibers open very fast, but then don't overexpand so I can live with the exit wounds. I'll bet the 25cal accubonds are designed for a little lighter game than the bigger ones, or else the higher velocity they often start at changes performance. Here are the 6mm bullets I've tried and what I liked or didn't about some of them. I can deal with drop better than drift for my use, 20mph+ winds are common where I live.

70gr ballistic tip, matchking 3400fps
75gr v-max great coyote bullet, seldom exits and they drop. Will wreck bobcat pelts 3450fps
85gr Partition & sierra gameking HPBT -good performance, low BC 3100fps
90gr ballistic tip (best so far) 3000fps
95gr berger, matchking, ballistic tip, hornady SST (bergers & matchkings don't expand enough past 200yds at my velocity, others don't offer much BC advantage over the lighter bullets) 2900fps
100gr sierra gameking, hornady BTSP (slow from my gun, not accurate over 2800fps)

Yup, you now understand!

I hear you on the wind... high BC or no, shooting in 20+ is rough... I do a lot of my coyote/pronghorn hunting just south of Cheyenne on the Colorado side... so I've been there/done that/doing it again tomorrow.

I see that you haven't run the 87 VMax... that's the bullet I'd really look at. The BC is better than the 90 NBT (and just about equal to the 87 Berger) at .400, they're cheap, super accurate, they'll expand for a looooong ways, and don't seem to wreck hides very often. Most of the coyotes I've shot with that bullet had exits about quarter to golfball size... sometimes you'd hit a shoulder on the way out though, then it was a little sloppy.

I'm also not sure how you're measuring your "expantion"... it's pretty hard to tell how a bullet expanded simply by looking at the entrance/exit wounds. Just because a critter makes tracks for 50-200 yards... doesn't mean that the bullet didn't expand. And, just becuase the exit wound isn't much more that caliber... also doesn't mean it didn't expand.
