So I figured out my weaver rings were the main issue with my scope slipping even with nail polish on the screws. For whatever reason they just weren't clamping down all the way. So I put the MK4 high rings that came with the 8-25x MK4 and they are doing the job very nicely. I also think the barrel is settling down back to normal after the cleaning last week. Fired this 3 shot group off the bipod at 300 yards that was 1.25" The load is 75.5g H1000/162g AMAX/CCI 250/Nosler case at 3200fps. This is what I'm use to seeing from the rifle... I'm loving the new 8-25x MK4 with TMR reticle as well. Super nice scope. The tracking and clarity is superb all the way up to 25x Also went 2 for 2 on the 500 yard gong (furthest gong at this particular range) with the 2 shots landing roughly 2" apart, about 2" high and 1" left of dead center.

View through the MK4 at 25x on the 500 yard donger. Not the best picture, pretty difficult to get the smartphone camera lined up just right and snapping the pic before all you see is black...

Also shot the wife's Kimber lightweight hunter 7-08 @ 300 yards with 46g RL17/150g NBTs @2825fps. 2.5" group.

Those are some awesome rifles. Glad you worked out the kinks on the 7-300. That is one awesome machine. This is why rings matter. Have a great day!!

Jorey,

Glad to see you have it all coming together. I've always felt that when you get past the 400 yard marker, that's where the minute details really start to matter like steel rings and bases, better optics, paying closer attention to handloads, and less coffee the morning that I shoot.
You have a pretty nice looking rig set up there and no doubt it's a shooter.
Your wife's Kimber 7-08 shoots pretty good too! Is that the Hunter? My wife has the Kimber Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Thanks guys. I never had an issue with those rings on the rifle for 5 years until I swapped scopes. Not sure why all of a sudden it wasn't holding the MK4. Held the VX3 just fine. Yup it's the lightweight hunter Jim. It's a super sweet little rifle for the wife, and I love 7mms so I figured it would be perfect for her 1 and only all around big game rifle. It also has a 4 port brake which is nice, because a 6# 7/08 bucks a little more than she would like honestly. It's a sweet little packing rifle if I ever wanted to use it as well, not that I would since I have a lightweight 280 myself haha. The 150g NBT at 2825fps will handle anything she wants to shoot and thr bullet is more than adequate for elk at that velocity. I'm not worried about it one bit. The 4-12 Vortex with BDC reticle sits in talley lightweights and is zeroed at 100 yards, works wonderfully out to 500 yards. She can ring the 500 yard gong all day with it.
