20190114_202034 (1024x512) (800x400).jpgAfter a variety of powder tryouts in my AR 15. I've settled with H4198 powder in Lapua cases, Win LR primer & 123gr SST's. Loading 26.2 grns powder gets me to 2400fps with sub MOA accuracy. (see example 100yd target pic) Although I'm not complaining whatsoever, I continue to get that one flyer out of 5, that just doesn't want to stay with the group? These are thru a 18" Hbar 1-10twist barrel, which thru testing I've found that the faster these fly, the more accurate they are. Looking at Hodgdon CFE-BLK, I notice the velocities are higher than H4198 with same CUP. Has anyone had experience with this powder a similar AR platform & using SST bullets and how was your consistent accuracy @ 100yds & beyond?
Thanks in advance

I am shooting a couple SKS's but the 123 Hornady SP with a Lapua case full (don't have the data at hand) of H322 is a tack driver and runs 2400ish fps.

Nice. I didn't have much luck with H322 in the accuracy dept? But I'm curious to hear your load data if you'd like to share. I also failed to mention that the new .310, 123 gr ballistic tip hunter bullet will be coming out soon. Hoping consistent grouping maybe achieved with a different bullet?

Is it always the first shot, or random?

Random, and also not a "cold barrel." Since I have a problem of being too excited before my first shots, I need to dry fire a few times, plus send a couple or more rounds downrange to relax. (I use previously loaded rounds that didn't group well) I'm shooting with a bi-pod and using a bag under the buttstock. Here's a couple more pics to view. I'm really hoping someone has loaded this caliber20190114_201917 (800x400).jpg with the CFE-BLK and will chime in on their results

I was out of town and just got home to retrieve my data. This is the load that shoots good in my Yugo SKS's .

Lapua case, Rem. 9 1/2 primer, 29.0 grs H322, 123 gr .310 Hornady SP, COAL 2.190. I use a Lee Factroy Crimp Die to hold the bullet firmly in the case because there is so little bullet shanke to seat in the neck to get good neck tension.

Is that shot that is out of all your groups the first shot? If it is there is a pattern there that needs to be addressed. Could be bullet moving either being pushed back or pulling forward from the difference in cycle of bolt from closing on first round and function from firing cycle. I would suggest that you give the Lee Factory Crimp Die a try. You never will know until you try.
