Does anyone have any experience with 7 mm Rem Mag 175 grain Partition and 65.5 grains of RL22 loads? I do not have any way to measure pressure but I seem OK with 64.5 grains of RL 22 getting sub moa and wanted to try increasing to 65.5 grains of RL 22. I only have a 22" barrel so I am trying to get as much velocity as I can without getting into pressure trouble.

Thanks,
Mark

 That's a seriously stout load!

I'm a big fan of the 7mm Rem mag, and of the 175 Nosler Partition in particular, as well as a nut-case about Reloader 22 in the 7 mag, but that is a LOT of gunpowder!

My older Nosler manual recommends a maximum charge of 62.5 grains of Reloader 22 under their 175 grain Partition... For 2970 fps. It's a great load by the way, although my old rifle wouldn't match that velocity, I did put one of those 175's right through a few feet of big Wyoming bull elk, and it killed him very quickly.

I can't recommend going beyond Nosler's max load, which is two grains below what you're already loading in your 7mm Rem mag. Did you work up to your current 64.5 grain charge, or find it recommended somewhere?

Granted, it might be safe in your rifle, but it's so far above the max recommended load from Nosler, I can't bring myself to tell ya to ladle in yet more gunpowder. I will tell you though, it's one heck of a bullet, and should do well for you. I don't think you need to drive it any harder.

Just checked Alliant's data, they only recommend 61.3 grains of Re-22 under the Sierra 175 grainer, for 2900 fps...

For the Nosler and Swift 175's they only show Reloader 25.

Thanks Guy. I did work up from below Nosler's Max load to 64.5 grains. I am averaging around 2850 fps and .685" to .885" groups at 100 yards. Based upon your recommendations, I think I will stay at 64.5 grains of RL 22.

Thanks
Mark

If you haven't shot any game with that bullet yet, I think you'll be pleased when you do... Please post any results on game... That's one of the best doggone hunting bullets I've come across. Lots of penetration, and good expansion too.

Looks like you're getting very good accuracy from it too.

Mark Z,

Guy has given you very good advise and I second it. Again this load may be safe in your rifle. Watch for all the high pressure signs.

Since you have a 22" tube and are trying to get higher velocity, why don't you consider the 160 gr PT. This is a very tough bullet and will often give you an exit on elk, the penetration is there. The 160 gr PT will give you a higher velocity and shooter flatter than the 175 gr PT.
