I've loaded up some 7 mm Rem. Mag. shells with 130 grain sp and Winchester Mag. primers. My question is,what causes powder burns to be on the neck of the case after firing?
Although I'm a big fan of the 7mm Rem mag, I've never used that light a bullet in it, nor have I used IMR 4064, so I looked it up on Hodgdon's very good web site. BTW, Hodgdon distributes IMR powders now.
With the 130 gr bullet, they recommend a minimum load of 52 grains, and a max of 55.4 grains of IMR 4064 with the 130 grain bullet. I suspect that if you bump up your powder charge into the recommended range, you'll get rid of the powder marks on the cases and see better performance as well.
For what it's worth, my best results with the 7mm Rem mag have been with 160 - 175 grain bullets and slower burning powder, particularly Reloader 22. It's no big trick to get 3000 - 3100 fps from a 160 grain bullet with RE-22.
Dubyam Deatsville is on the other side of Prattville, which is south of Huntsville. Glad to here from someone in this great state. I have some 140 grain and 150 grain ballistic tip Noslers that I plan on loading later on in the year. I want to thank all of ya'll for the help
