My son is on a Berger kick. I'm not sure where I went wrong - I'm extremely proud of him and all aspects of who he is and the character he displays. Anyway, his full laminate stock New Haven Coyote 7WSM has been easy to load for with everything so far. That didn't change, here are the first 3 shots with his 168 VLD's. Mild load, 2900 fps - should be adequate for his "backup" rifle :

Didnt know they chambered a "short" magnum. Or did you mean the "super Short"? Nice rifle that. CL

It's one of the last Model 70's from the New Haven Winchester plant. Laminate stock, blue action, heavy (umph!) stainless barrel. They made these in all the WSM calibers for a short time:

Nice! You gotta love the 7WSM. It is a keeper for sure!
True Scott if I were where to use a short mag it would be a 7wsm or a 7 saum. Assuming I had all the 6.5 configurations covered first. :p

I gotta get mine running...

What's his sighting setup? I have a 20 MOA Picatinny rail (I think, may be 30 MOA) and Seekins rings, to hold a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 SFP MOA.

I've worked up loads several times with 168 VLDs for the 7WSM. They tend to shoot quite well. I prefer ABs in my own 7WSM, but I cannot deny that the 168 VLDs do shoot well and those who use the Bergers are pleased with their performance.

Nice shooting, and a good looking rifle - my Coyote is the .300 WSM, and although it's a tad heavy, it's a good rifle. The action on mine feeds those stubby cases slick as can be.

I can understand the Bergers, have used quite a few of them myself.

When I whined about it being heavy, he just looked at me from his wheelchair and said, "I don't have to carry it".
