The 8mm Rem Mag is a cool round. With a 200 gr AB or PT, I would look at IMR4831 (Max load is 78.0 grs), IMR4350 (Max load is 74.0 grs) and RL 22 (Max load is 80.5 grs). I haven't loaded this round but Nosler RG 6 suggest RL 22 as the most accurate powder so I would start there.

I used the 220 Hornady now defunct and the 220 Sierra, No AB back then.
Got 3000 fps with H4831 and Rl 25.

The 8mm spoke with authority and hit hard. It has, however, essentially been replaced today with the 325 WSM. If you have an 8mm RM, you have a very effective rifle. As with most of the cartridges that use significant charges of powder, the slower powders work best. JD338 is correct in suggesting RL22. In my sole experience with the cartridge, that powder was a winner.

Here she is. I just ordered a Boyds laminate stock for it. Applejack JRS. I have some 200gr Accubonds and lots of slow burning powders like RL22, RL25, 7828, H1000.

That rifle looks awesome the way it is, the laminate will only make it look nicer. Very sharp rifle. I like it. Bet those 200gr Accubonds are going to zing with the right load. That should be an awesome rifle for you. The Earlier M700's were always pretty accurate, hope you got one! That looks like it would be right at home in elk country! Scotty

Had her out to the range yesterday and tried out a load as follows:
200gr AccuBond
80.5grs RL22
Avg vel : 2940fps
Accuracy was crap though! About 2.5-3" 3 shots at 100yds.
I also have some 220gr A-Frames and was thinking of trying RL25. Was also thinking of trying the Sierra 220gr.

Just got done with mine. Found it in a shop for $595 with a 3x9 Bushnel 3100 Elite on it.
I put a new LSS stock on it (low sheen version of the origional LSS) Gunbroker $125. Pepper laminate looks good with the blued rifle.
Worked up a load that shoots good in it but you may want to start lower. I'm not at max but it shot real good. About 1.75" on a windy day and just about an inch on a still day.
Rem. 700, 200 gr. Nos A/Bs, CCI 250 primers, 87 grs. Reloader 25.
3.6" OAL for 3085 fps. I went up to 88 grs with no pressure signs at all but the group opened way up at 3123 fps. to 2.5 ". I had some chrony trouble when I first started but fixed the issue. The gun is still not a tackdriver but for hunting it's good to 500 yds on elk. I put a muzzle brake on it to make it more fun to shoot. It's got a 4-12x40 Bushnell Trophy on it with the DOA BDC reticle. I'll be playing with it a bit more. I'm starting to go with e-tips or TSXs to be ready for a possible lead ban.
It fills the bill between the 300 RUM with a 180 gr. at 3330 fps. and the 338 RUM with a 225 gr. at 3115 fps.
It filled a niche that may not have actually existed but it was all the excuse I needed 8)

Thanks Greg for the response. I will give RL25 a try. Is there much truth to the rumors that the reloader series of powders are temperature sensitive?

There are reports of excessive temperature sensitivity with RL22 in particular. I use a fair amount of the ReLoder powders, shooting in temps ranging from -45 C to +30 C. There is certainly a measurable difference in velocities at the extremes, but I have not observed a significant effect on accuracy. For shots over 400 yards, there certainly could be a shift in POI. For routine hunting purposes, the effect is negligible.
