A Donor...maybe

Just picked this up at what i think was a decent deal with current price's. It is a Winchester Model 70 push feed "Ranger Youth" in 308, came with the original plain wood stock, and also the full sized synthetic it is currently in. Couple tiny little scratches on the metal but overall excellent condition. First thought was to send it to JES and turn it into a 338 Federal, but will have to research if the barrel is heavy enough to do that. Possibly also look into a barrel swap. But first i will make the mistake of shooting it.

Well- as you eluded to... the acceptable wisdom is "DONT SHOOT THE DONOR.... !!!" but what fun is that?? Anyway in these "ammo starved times", you might be able to find some 308. So where's the down side? You could do worse. CL

Well, looks as if you have a good project to occupy your time at least. Nothing wrong with a good 308, however. Don't know if the barrel has enough meat to allow a rebore to .338. If so, that is a great cartridge.

Those push-feed Winchesters can be excellent rifles and the 308 is a dandy cartridge. Even if you don't change it, you've probably got a good hunting rifle.
